Trump orders expulsion of dozens of Russian diplomats, closure of consulate in Seattle

President Trump on Monday ordered the expulsion of 60 Russian intelligence officers in the United States and the closure of the Russian consulate in Seattle in response to the nerve agent attack on an ex-Russian spy in the U.K. earlier this month, senior administration officials said.

The steps, following Britain's expulsion of Russian diplomats, are meant to send a message to Moscow that actions have consequences, the officials said. The Seattle consulate is being closed because of its proximity to submarine bases, as well as Boeing.

“With these steps, the United States and our allies and partners make clear to Russia that its actions have consequences,” White House press secretary Sarah Sanders said. “The United States stands ready to cooperate to build a better relationship with Russia, but this can only happen with a change in the Russian government’s behavior.”

Russia, which has been blamed for the attack, has denied wrongdoing.

Officials said a total of 60 Russians are being expelled, including 48 at the Russian embassy and 12 at the United Nations. The individuals and their families have been given seven days to leave the United States.

"Today, the United States began the process of expelling 12 intelligence operatives from the Russian Mission to the United Nations who have abused their privilege of residence in the United States," UN Ambassador Nikki Haley said Monday. "After a review, we have determined that the 12 intelligence operatives engaged in espionage activities that are adverse to‎ our national security."

Indeed. You should see the influx of Chinese wives in and around the NSA in suburban Maryland.

China is a serious threat. Russia, under Putin, has become a nuisance threat only.

No but he’s acting like somebody’s puppet for sure trying to salvage Theresa Mays bony shanks

All this over the still unexplained contamination by an unidentifed substance delivered by unidentified means to a probable over the hill double agent working for - or against - MI6

Just wait - the left will find a way to criticize this.

So if we’re so mad at them then when is the US going to shut down Russia’s uranium mine?

He’s just cleverly concealing that fact by screwing Russia.

1)Because Theresa May said it was the only explanation. ( any rational person questions this)
2) “ We” do not and the OPCW has yet to be involved

nor has Russia the accused been permitted any access to technical evidence

This agent has been known for over 20 years and would have been synthesized in many CW research facilities looking to develop countermeasures and antidotes - which UK ( which first developed earlier vatiants of nerve agent at nearby Porton Down) had on hand within minutes or hours

When the north koreans assassnated political figure with VX nobody immediately blamed England because England invented VX

Just one proof of proliferation beyond Russia: Here is a report of Iranian scientists developing novochik for research- just one of many potential producers

“Dave, someday let me tell you about Sonya Pleskovich.”

Anytime.

Of course with her last name, Pleskovich, no more than one drink before and during discussion.

Isnt it a bit of a “ coincidence” that so many of those dead Russians were collaborating with MI6? Maybe until they werent needed or became a ... risk

Skripnal was reportedly working with Christoper Steele the MI6 fake dossier writer but also in touch with Russians ... he had a daughter living in Russia - why would she be safe if he was spying on Russia?

On the other hand if he betrayed a lot of Russians - or Brit agents - he had many enemies-

One would think that MI6 would take better “care” of its double agents esp if they defect- on the other hand if a defector wants to return home or flips agsin - then whose interests are served by .. termination

I believe we should pre-emptively strike North Korea. I’m all for that.

I see no coincidence except for the fact that Putin has exercised this tactic several times. It’s documented.

If they were collaborating, which it seems very clear they were, all the more reason for Putin to resort to his old KGB tactics.

Actually it is not “ documented”
It is presumed
You know what deep state wants you to know and you think what they want you to think
Putin= Ex KGB. bad. Black hat. Murders spies - after they are pardoned and traded
Because thats good for future negotiations and getting agents to flip ( not)

Western counterparts = white hats. Like the virtuous John Brennan James Clapper and the UK spy operation in the USA run by and for the DNC and obama. Would never murder or do false flags to achieve their goals.

I wonder if any of them will defect rather than go back to Herr Putin.

The Russians had no reason to poison that spy.

Sure they did. This is a powerful warning, with just enough deniability, to not be a traitor to Russia.

And of course May and GB looked weak and isolated until this news dropped.

You’d have to be an extremely dense person to believe that anybody else or any entity had any motivation to poison this enemy of Russia.

Same goes for Alexander Litvenenko in a similar situation of a former Russian spy.

Same goes for several Russian journalists who didn’t tow the Putin line in Russian media.

We still have our “useful idiots”, when it comes to protecting authoritarian tyrants like Putin.

lol...Putin’s jackboots get licked by a few here at FR.

The US is always wrong...Putin’s Russia is always innocent.

Hmmm reminds me of the liberal socialist Dims abiding the old Soviet Union back in the day...Some things never change.
