Should the Military Build the Wall?
Townhall.com ^ | March 25, 2018 | Timothy Meads

Today, President Donald J. Trump offered a new way possible for America to build the border wall, even after the omnibus spending bill signed on Friday left many wondering if construction will ever start. His suggestion? Have the military build it.

Early Sunday morning, President Trump pointed out the fact that the border wall is a matter of national security. America therefore should simply have the Department of Defense over see the project in order to keep out drugs and enemy combatants, according to the commander in chief.

Because of the $700 & $716 Billion Dollars gotten to rebuild our Military, many jobs are created and our Military is again rich. Building a great Border Wall, with drugs (poison) and enemy combatants pouring into our Country, is all about National Defense. Build WALL through M!— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) March 25, 2018

It is estimated that the border wall will cost roughly $18 billion dollars. The omnibus bill allotted only $1.6 billion, but President Trump says a lot can be done with that money.

Much can be done with the $1.6 Billion given to building and fixing the border wall. It is just a down payment. Work will start immediately. The rest of the money will come - and remember DACA, the Democrats abandoned you (but we will not)!— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) March 25, 2018

President Trump's comments echo similar statements made last December when he touted border security as his first pillar of defense in a speech on National Security.

As reported by CNS News, President Trump said,

“First, we must protect the American people, the homeland and our great American way of life,” Trump said. “This strategy recognizes that we cannot secure our nation if we do not secure our borders."

"So, for the first time ever, American strategy now includes a serious plan to defend our homeland,"added Trump. "It calls for the construction of a wall on out southern border, ending chain migration and the horrible visa and lottery programs, closing loopholes that undermine enforcement, and strongly supporting our Border Patrol agents, ICE officers, and Homeland Security Personnel.”

One of the thinGS that makes some of us so fecking angry is the understanding that if the Dems were in power and wanted that wall built the CinC would order the military to do it as a matter of national security in a heartbeat.

“430days in office: 0 miles, 0 feet, and 0 inches of new wall built”

“Montana company gets $73M contract for border fence work near Santa Teresa” (Susan Montoya Bryan, Associated Press Published Feb. 28, 2018) https://www.lcsun-news.com/story/news/local/2018/02/28/montana-company-gets-73-m-contract-border-fence-work-near-santa-teresa/382566002/

“ALBUQUERQUE - The U.S. government has awarded a Montana-based company a contract worth more than $73 million to design and build replacement fencing along 20 miles of the U.S.-Mexico border in southern New Mexico, officials confirmed Wednesday.

Existing vehicle barriers west of the Santa Teresa port of entry will be replaced with taller bollard-style barriers under the contract awarded in January to Barnard Construction Co. Inc.”

I would anticipate that the Contracting Officers at the Army Corps of Engineers have solicitations all ready to release as soon as the money comes through, what with the President of the United States asking for status updates at every cabinet meeting for the last year.

Protecting the country takes precedence over surrendering to black-robed tyrants who make pronouncements that the Constitution does not give them authority to.

Yes, build it any way it can be done. Then export ALL here illegally and I do mean ALL. Then work on a fix for birthright citizenship, extreme vetting for immigrants, refugees, and people coming here for College. Lower the number of legal immigrants to 100,000 for 5 years, and give special treatment to Christians.

Tell that to the Army Corps of Engineers.
From Wikipedia:
The United States Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) is a U.S. federal agency under the Department of Defense and a major Army command made up of some 37,000 civilian and military personnel, making it one of the world’s largest public engineering, design, and construction management agencies. Although generally associated with dams, canals and flood protection in the United States, USACE is involved in a wide range of public works throughout the world. The Corps of Engineers provides outdoor recreation opportunities to the public, and provides 24% of U.S. hydropower capacity.

The Air Force has RED HORSE.

Divide up the length of the border among the various construction commands, like a cross between the Normandy beachhead and the First Transcontinental Railroad.

One warning - earlier I posited that SOUTHCOM would be the Unified Command of the US Military that might get involved in Southern Border Security/Border barrier construction, but after a bit of thought, it really should be NORTHCOM - which is charged with Homeland Defense.

Being SOUTHCOM Commanding General however, certainly makes General Kelly expert in how things work at that level in the military, and particularly knowledgeable about the specific threats on our Southern border, like drug cartels and human trafficers.

The Army Corp got a great amount of funding in the Omnibus, and it sounds like that money is going to be at Trump's disposal. So ...

Is so, then the dems got royally schnookerd.

It would either be NAVFAC or US ACOE who would receive the funds for MILCONs, Air Force also has its contracting entities.

Only problem with these mechanisms is that under the Democrats it was a mechanism to payback Contractors who had supported Democratic Senators. Tough to prove in a court of law, but about the only way to justify the number of stupid payments made.
