I am no Hitler fan, but he was awarded both the Iron Cross's 2nd and 1st class, which was EXTREMELY rare for an enlisted man. The only other WW1 German award higher would have been the "Pour le Merit" (Blue Max).

Good history! The Red Baron and Hermann Goering among others got the Blue Max in WW1.
