In order to prevent the omnibus situation from ever happening again, the president called for the Senate to end the filibuster rule.
There are many classic examples of the famous Senate filibuster, or the practice in which a lawmaker will speak against a bill he doesnt like for hours, even days until the legislation is finally shelved.
Why does President Trump want to do away with a key piece of Senate filibuster rules?
The answer goes back to a Democrat who occupied the White House more than a century ago.
Back in 1917, then-President Woodrow Wilson found himself unable to move his agenda forward due to seemingly endless filibusters in Congress.
Tired of waiting, Wilson urged the Senate to come up with a way to pass bills without deliberation.
What they came up with, and what is now blocking major Trump administration reforms, is known as the cloture rule, which sets the threshold for a law to pass at 60 votes. This is far higher than a simple Senate majority of 51.
As President Trump explains it eight Dems totally control the U.S. Senate

whoever told you “Go ahead and be yourself” gave you terrible advice.
>>I would like to sit down with McConnell and try to understand his calculus. <<
Here’s his calculus. As long as he sticks with the filibuster, he’s the most powerful person in DC. He can absolutely ignore the priorities of every other Republican Senator, the House GOP, and even the President himself, just by claiming it won’t pass because it won’t get 60 votes.
And if he likes something, he can trade with some Dems and get it.
Got it? It’s not that hard to see.
What I don’t understand is why so many conservatives don’t understand that simple fact and unite to put enough pressure on him to get him to yield. Even with the President calling for him to do it all we get is crickets.
And don’t anybody bother giving me the b.s. excuse that it will come back to bite us. Schumer will take that bite as soon as it’s to his advantage, regardless what McConnell does.

Mitch McConnell to POTUS:
“Sure Mr President. Right after we get around to passing a constitutional Line Item Veto law...
...(Heh heh heh...Don’t hold your breath, Sir)”
The Congress is laughing at Trump. You think they are going to listen to a word he has to say?
Troll me thinks.
Yeah.
So is our Senate - just look at what they just passed.
But you still believe them. :)
If anyone ever deserved a ZOT, you do.
lol
They had enough votes to override a veto - the Dems and RINOs were trying to set him up and hoping he would veto it so they could work together to try to finish him off - they were very slick...if he vetoed it, they could howl about how he abandoned the military and lots of other interests and if he signed it, a lot of his base would be so incensed they wouldn't think long enough to realize who the real problems are....looks like the Dems and RINOs are winning because lots of Trump folks aren't able to conceive that conceding a battle may help win the war - Trump threw the gauntlet down at the Presser yesterday.
I suspect McTurtle will nuke the filibuster rule later in the year, just in time for the incoming Communist Party majority, so the Rupukes do not even have to participate after the election. They can just sit with their snouts in the K Street trough with no distractions.
Yes. They don't have them.
