Hokey religions and ancient weapons are no match for a good blaster at your side, kid.
Except that now Han Solo isnt sporting his famous blaster in newly released character shot posters. The revamped posters have removed all of the weapons from the characters, leaving them to look a little odd.
Clearly something is missing from the designs. They look very off.
Heres Han Solo and friends with their weapons
And without
According to Movie Web, the change comes both after controversy surrounding alleged plagiarism by the freelance artist and controversy about gun control in the aftermath of the Parkland, Florida school shooting.
"Alden Ehrenreichs young Han Solo is seen in his reddish poster that shows the character in the same stance as the previous poster, but instead of aiming his iconic blaster, his right arm has been Photoshopped to be placed at his side."
"It looks a bit clumsy, and so do the rest of the posters that were doctored, especially when compared to the originals. The first Solo posters with the blasters intact made their debut before the Stoneman Douglas High School shooting in the United States. But the altered ones came after. Though these are international posters, the news of the Florida shooting became a worldwide incident."
"Its hard to tell if Disney is trying to appease both sides of the gun debate by having both versions of the now altered poster available, which should make everyone happy and not so happy at the same time. It pleases everyone and no one all at once, and is sending some mixed signals."
Disney or Lucasfilm has not confirmed why the change was made, and tying it to gun violence is pure speculation.
Meanwhile, Pirates of the Caribbean re-opened earlier this week featuring a gun-toting redhead peddling rum. The change was reportedly made to avoid association with human trafficking.
I used to have it on laserdisk. It had the shotguns.
The look on the guy’s face makes sense if he’s looking down a gun sight. Without it, he looks like a caricature of a guy trying to look cool.
Disney Removes Guns from New Solo: A Star Wars Story Movie Posters
FEAR THE POSTER.
Disney does this and has been doing this for years.
There’s an old Mickey Mouse cartoon where Mickey is camping that shows a shotgun or rifle over the fire place. The gun haters changed it to a broom.
Now instead of Mickey chasing the bear with a gun, he chases the bear with a broom.
Ya beat me to it....
A couple of baby faced kids attempting to replace Harrison Ford and Billie Dee Williams...an over-saturation of the market...bad worth of mouth...the fact it’s another damn prequel...and now this?
This movie is going bomb harder than Luke hitting a Womprat from a T-16.
As so many on the far right seem to do...
From the very beginning I have a very bad feeling about this movie.
That was actually for the 20th anniversary release in 2002. And, to be fair, when it was first released on DVD, Steven Spielberg insisted that both versions be included in the package, having apparently had a change of heart about the alterations.
Give them cigarettes instead. LOL
Star Wars - a gun free zone.
LOL! Please, we shouldn’t be giving them ideas for free...
You could just give them sticks. Besides, energy blasters probably have really cool safety features.
Remember beginning with the 1968 anti-gun hysteria? Movies shown on TV were butchered to remove all scenes of “violence”. Even sword fights from old movies like SOLOMON AND SHEBA, THE WAR LORD, EL CID, KHARTOUM were BUTCHERED to remove violence.
But on the big screen, scenes were reshot to add blood and guts to gain the coveted “R” rating. They could be removed when later shown on TV.
Remember a few years back when ET was re-released with all guns removed and replaced by radios.
I'm done with Disney, and the demonization of legal products and law-abiding Americans...
I predict this movie is going to flop.
Long. Narrow. Rounded at one end.
Don't ask.
Don't tell.
Chewbacca looks a little awkward and confused.
Lol!
Hey, cuz, did you dumble Jeff in your pants?
That’s a pretty stupid expression on his face without the gun.
