Yes it is impossible to believe an object in the middle of the road was missed.. lidar does not rely on visible light.. she didn’t “dart out” in front of the car as the original reports claimed. She was clearly walking her bike across the street.

the driver had more than enough time to avoid the human. The driver was reckless and dangerous

She also crossed three lanes before entering the forth lane where she was hit (about 40ft). That means she was in the roadway about 7 seconds. Seven seconds for the vehicle puts it about 400ft from the point of impact when she entered the road. If you use a good satellite viewer that puts the car just coming out from under the overpass. Slight curve in the road, but not enough to obstruct line of sight to the pedestrian.
Here is the real problem. The Uber car was equipped with LIDAR that has a 20 meter range, 360 degrees. Thats about 65 feet. At 40mph on dry asphalt, a car can stop in about 80 feet. That does not include reaction time. Whats the reaction time for an autonomous car? Regardless, it could have been a concrete block in the middle of the road and the car would not have stopped. It was over driving its visual acuity.

Yes, system failure. The sensors should have spotted the woman. She was right out in the open.
