Three or four teachers and staff carrying at schools would probably be enough to protect most schools. Time after time comments are made that teachers are just unwilling to carry. Yet, every time free classes are offered for teachers, more want to take the classes than there is available space.

I'll go out on a limb a bit here and make two predictions:
**There will only be 2 or 3 shootings of attackers by teachers within the next few years.
**The attacks will stop (with the exception of those schools which continue to be gun free fire zones) because the attackers won't want to risk it anymore.
So, while I don't disagree with you at all, that situation will almost never happen in the next 10 years.
>>If they cant hit a grapefruit at 10 feet, they better leave the pistol at home.<<
On the other hand, most perps are larger than a grapefruit!
>>True. Butt, if someone is shooting at me, even if they suck at it, I will retreat.<<
Hey, don’t undermine these naysayers with the obvious!
>> If we arm our teachers, train our teachers, and let everyone know that our schools are full of armed, trained teachers then there will not be a whole lot of idiots who are brave enough to try and shoot up a non-gun free zone school.<<
Hey, don’t undermine the irrational naysayers with statements of the obvious!
>>People should have guns. Teachers are people.<<
This and all else in your post is perfectly stated and perfectly true. And thanks for posting it.
If I ran a school board, I would like to hire recently retired special forces guys and gals as weaponized janitors. One 9mm semi-auto pistol and a select fire short barrel under the coveralls. A la Steven “I’m only the cook.” Segal. And anyone with a decent brain can see that limiting ingress to the buildings and installing metal detectors is the prudent thing to do.
>>Effectively shooting it in a high stress situation is really tough.
This raises the question of what are our expectations for the teachers that carry?<<
Your first statement above indicates you are a master of the obvious because the point is self-evident. And the second statement is a rhetorical question meant to obfuscate the very obvious answer, which is the expectation that teachers who carry will confront and, if warranted, shoot on sight any assailant, hopefully before she injures or kills someone.
Several years ago, Claude TX (abt. 30mi. SE of Amarillo) allowed their teachers to be armed. No problems.
Thanks for the info.
Despite what Kamala Harris has idiotically asserted.....
On the flip side, nobody is really ready for a life and death situation the first time they are confronted with one - even the best training can't inject the natural adrenaline flood and all that goes with it.
Because every cop who pulls his or her gun face hours, days even of filling out forms and explaining ad nausem why they had to unholster their service weapon. Civilians don’t face this.
