BOULDER, Colo. A student with a wooden color guard rifle prompted Fairview High School to be placed on lockdown and four other schools placed on lockout on Friday morning, the Boulder Police Department said.
Police received a call about 7:30 a.m. saying they saw a teenage boy carrying what they believed was a white rifle case near Emerson Avenue in south Boulder. No gun was seen.

The Boulder Valley School District said just after 8 a.m. that Fairview was placed on the more restrictive lockdown, meaning all classrooms were secured, the lights were turned off and students were being kept quiet and in place indoors.
Southern Hills Middle School, Bear Creek Elementary School, Community Montessori School and Mesa Elementary were placed on lockout, the district said.
The restrictions were lifted about 8:30 a.m. after police found the student and it was determined he had been carrying a white wooden rifle that was brought to school for a color guard class.
The student usually carries the wooden rifle in a case. But the case he was carrying was full of flags so he decided to carry the rifle outside of the case, police said.
This was in Washington DC public HS, up unil 1965 when I graduated.
At the start of the school year we were issued our rifles with sn numbers recorded.
We were taught to field strip them, but for the trigger group. During the week, using our free period or before/after classes, we were expected to clean them for weekly inspection. We were responsible for them after checking them out from the armory.
Only once was a rifle missing from the armory after pre-school drill. Before first period class, school was locked down. The Army Major advisor and our student commanding officers went straight to the students locker where they found it. Dofus had been dicking around late for class and rather than returning it to the armory. Next day in the stadium, the Major, using salty language for that era, introduced the offenders platoon to “high port” running drill, 3x around the track. Lesson learned by all.

We used “deactivated” 1903s in the early 80s.
It looks like the white version of that scary black AR 2 x 4....
An OAK-47?
Look, they already banned the song “tequilla” when my daughter was in color guard. Upset the band kids. Also they didn’t have rifles because the band director knew the kids would hurt themselves.
Collective hysteria.
Don’t forget the white tape. I just read about using white duct tape to make knuckle dusters.

Gee- I wonder why no one ever goes to jail . . .
Insanity this is. Circa 1966 I was in ROTC and this was required as my University was a land grant college. We did two years of ROTC and those that desired to continue would do four years and then be a commissioned officer in the Army.
During drills we would have several companies of students with fully functional M1 Garands drilling. The only thing to make the weapon totally functional would be a clip and the cartridges. These were readily available at many gun stores.
Nothing bad every happened! We all feared the wrath of Sergent Major Fox. This was a man that jumped into Normandy, fought in Korea and Vietnam. His few years at University were a present to him for his many years as a warrior. He was actually a very kind man and had stories of war that would amaze you. However, one did not cross Sergent Major Fox. Even the captains did not screw with him. He was killing Germans when they were wearing diapers.
Forgot to add, that the firing pins were not in the bolt. This could have been changed out with ease. It never happened.
They were the ones that I tried to pummel and wish I still could.
A good portion of this country has lost its collective mind. Most of us will still keep on funding and placing our children in these insane asylum/indoctrination centers of government "education".
My college AFROTC Detachment had real, non-functioning, M-1 Garands. Probably outlawed now.
