Who is the contractor and designer? Paint has barely dried and it fell. More than 900 tons, completely failed. Incredible failure.
Probably a snowflake. And it cost $14.4M. What a waste of money.
Accelerated Bridge Construction Method.
Isn’t the city supposed to inspect it before using it? This is the stuff of nightmares!
This will be studied for a long time to come. Not quite “galloping gertie” at the Pacific Narrows, but close. Hate to be anyone associated with that right now, contractors, suppliers, anything and everything will be scrutinized. Lots of CYA going on right now.
When I was stationed in South Korea I vaguely recall just a few years earlier a spate of bridge failures.
Seems the contractors cheated, and/or used seawater to mix the portland and make concrete. Lasted longer than a week though.
I would think they would have done a scale model test (real world, not digital) before building the design.
Whichever company built this and the engineers who worked on it are about to penniless, and rightfully so.
They should also go to prison if negligence can be proven.
