Republicans are panicked after Democrat Conor Lamb closed in on a victory over Republican Rick Saccone in a Pennsylvania congressional district that went for President Donald Trump by 20 points in 2016.
That Lamb could perform so well in a district that overwhelmingly supported Trump and had sent a Republican to Congress without much contention for the better part of two decades signaled major challenges for the party as it seeks to maintain its congressional majorities in this year's midterm elections.
"It's really hard to see how anyone looks at the factors Republicans are facing at this time, and the environment Republicans are in, and conclude anything other than that we are heading for a very difficult cycle," a Republican strategist close to the race told Business Insider.
"The narrow margin in a district the president won handily should be a serious wake up call for Republican incumbents across the map," the person added late Tuesday night. "No suburban district is safe and every candidate better be ready for the most difficult cycle of their career."
There are roughly 120 House seats currently controlled by Republicans in districts that are not as solidly Republican as Pennsylvania's 18th Congressional District.
Lamb's results came on the heels of Democratic Sen. Doug Jones' shocking win in Alabama and big wins for the party in New Jersey and Virginia late last year. As of 12:30 a.m. on the East Coast, Lamb led Saccone by a slim margin of just more than 500 votes with only some absentee ballots outstanding. Lamb declared victory, and Democratic campaign groups followed suit.
Needing a huge boost from those ballots to leapfrog Lamb, Saccone told supporters he was going to "fight" until the very end. But many Democrats already proclaimed Lamb the victor.

Good..................
In Hillary’s famous words, “what happened?”
Have they tossed out all of the illegal alien votes yet?
No need for panic, but cause for concern.
Cleaned up? 600 or so votes? Plus the GOP could not have found a weaker candidate.
The people for the most part still get their news from abc, nbc, cbs.
Well I suppose the GOP has better stop sucking real damn soon then.
I have long held the opinion that the GOP Establishment is happiest when they are in the Minority. As the minority party, they enjoy all of the perks and privileges that holding office offers while having the luxury of being able to “piss and moan” about not being able to do anything because they are the minority. No accountability and no responsibility to hamper their ability to fleece the taxpayers at will.
There should have never been a question that the democRATs would lose this race in an epic fashion. The RNCC threw this race and nobody will convince me otherwise.
Reps need some fresh faces with young blood.
Look, no matter the outcome of this election the MSM was going to spin it as doom and gloom on the Republicans lead by that “mean man” Trump.
As I understand it, (1) the election is not final, (2) whomever wins only serves until November (the next election), (3) if the PA SC ruling stands then this district ceases to exist and the candidates must run in an entirely new one and finally (5) will the Republican voters come out in November 2018? The last one is the key.
Let’s not get our panties in a wad, which is what the MSM would like to see.
The Democrats are dumping huge money into these special elections and are mobilizing their idle election turnout workers from all over the country.
Reportedly over 80 million dollars for the Ossoff, Moore and Lamb and probably more.
On the other hand , Republicans are giving their base the middle finger.
It will be interesting to see how the plays out in the general election where Democrat are not able to focus all of their national assets on a single local race.
.
Election fraud, plain and simple.
Bullshat if that scared ya you dont need to be voting you need to be under the bed !
“Reps need some fresh faces with young blood.”
This will ever get much harder when the changing demographic wave of America continues it course... as the historic minorities become majority and the youth that is looking at the planet globally, nationalism, patriotism and sovereignty have lesser meaning.
IMO this is a Pyrrhic victory for the Dems. Lamb ran and apparently won as a centrist Democrat. This throws a monkey wrench into the Bernie wing of the party with their claims that the party has to lurch even further left. So the Dem civil war will continue unabated and unresolved.
Republicans are panicking after a Democrat just cleaned up in a deep-red PA district
Wait until after the recount to make such bold claims. No winner yet.
Exactly the same way I think about the GOPe....
