It was a survivable fall - but the ledge that “redirected” him halfway down plus the way he finally impacted (not visible due to people in the way) must have done him in.
He basically swung himself over a second floor railing of an interior area at a hotel or a shopping mall...
Maybe he knew his time was up if he went back...? Someone could have tipped him off that a bullet was waiting.
Either way, we’ll never know.
