Who Wants To Arm Teachers? Republican Men
NPR ^ | March 2, 2018 | Domenico Montanaro

Guns have dominated politics this week. And the one idea President Trump keeps coming back to is arming teachers.

But a new NPR/Ipsos poll found that really only one group of people are in favor of training teachers to carry guns in schools — Republicans, especially Republican men.

>>NPR’s soulution is too give more power to the very agencies that have failed every mass shooting vs. giving it to the teachers that are willing to do it.

NPR needs to be defunded and forced to compete on their own merit. They are a waste of tax payers money.<<

I am in 100% agreement with you on both points, and thank you for posting them.

>>The 6 dead adults at Sandy Hook would probably vote to be armed if they could have a do-over.<<

Nicely done!

>>I have to admit I see problems with teachers being armed.<<

Persons who are fully trained in the use of guns and who are psychologically capable of confronting and killing armed assailants need to be on duty in all schools, no exceptions. Moreover, all schools should be redesigned to have only one accessible entrance, controlled by armed personnel and by metal detectors just as are virtually all court buildings in the country. Anyone, regardless of current or previous profession, who is both qualified and willing to perform this service to protect the students and school personnel in our country’s schools should be assigned to do so.

Do you know what a generalization is?

Yes, and generalizations based on an insufficient (or in your case unknown) number of representative samples is a logical fallacy.

I am not presenting a paper here. Public school performance is absymal in this country. We keep spending more money per kid and all national testing results and graduation rates show less and less results.

You know this and everyone else does too. The generalization holds because the people in the classrooms are the teachers. The results we have kids who are dumber than ever, are taught what to think mre now than how to think, and are incredibly proud and have high self esteem even though they are the worst prepared kids than ever before.

SAM, I don’t disagree with anything you’ve said here. What I was contesting was what I thought was your contention that teachers ought not be considered viable candidates for being armed to defend themselves, their colleagues, and the children in their schools. If that was your point, in my opinion it’s a faulty generalization.

And my point is that they are not trained to be armed guards. And as a group as a whole, they don’t even do the job they are supposedly trained for very well, when you see the dismal results from the public schools. They already are not handling whats on their plate very well, they should not be given weapons and dumping more onto their plates.

Wat should be done is end schools as gun free zones, and whoever wants to carry, can carry.

And my point is the following:

And anyone, regardless of their current or previous profession, who is both qualified and willing to perform this service to protect the students and school personnel in our country’s schools should be assigned to do so.

Since you obviously disagree, tell us just how you would recommend that the next psycho with access to firearms is to be prevented from slaughtering children in school. Go ahead, take your time and give it some thought.

The second part of this statement contradicts your previous one about not having teachers armed. Make up your mind.
