For the last decade, the U.S. has pursued a case before the World Trade Organization (WTO) against illegal subsidies provided to Airbus by four European governments, which have given the European plane maker an unfair advantage in the global market. With government help, Airbus has captured 50% of the global commercial airplane market .
The European Union has used delay and stall tactics to continue evading global trade rules by filing their own cases against the United States and ignoring WTO compliance rulings against their illegal practices. Theyve lost badly at every twist and turn, and now its time for them to address the $22 billion in illegal subsidies the WTO ruled against them and meet their global trade obligations.

It will make the current steel/aluminum case look insignificant. It will all be authorized by the WTO. President Trump needs to strike at the heart of Europe's exports, especially targeting German car exports.
To cap that off, the Trump Administration is targeting China's forced technology transfers. That could result in billions of dollars in tariffs against Chinese exports.
2018 is going to be a BIG year for Trump's America First policy!
Having flown in both, honestly, I generally like Airbus planes better. Maybe that is because the subsidy lets them install more expensive, comfortable seats?
The A319 is a better plane than the 737
I thought even if the sanctions were awarded, they would never be implemented, because both sides have too much to lose.
Airbus and Boeing both make great aircraft. Boeing does it cheaper. If not for the subsidies to Airbus they would die. When it comes to fuel burn, the 787 Boeing Dreamliner is top dog and will be top dog for some years to come.
It will be interesting to see what happens.
Unlike the current Steel/Aluminum case (not authorized by a WTO case, but being implemented by US under “national security”), the Airbus subsidies have been declared illegal by the WTO and US tariffs will be authorized.
The EU will have no legal standing to issue retaliatory tariffs. Trump will be following Treaty rules.
Tax the damn things every time they penetrate our airspace.

I worked on the plane, but waiting a few more years before being a passenger. Just to be safe...
The 797 will may get the go ahead in 2018 or 2019. I think 2024 is the goal for production.
Just Don’t retaliate in ways that helps Government Motors and the unions that own it.
I do believe Airbus planes are more dangerous.
If you think airbus is bad, wait for 3 years when Chinese C919 commercial aircrafts are airborne. They also design wider one C929 with Russia now.
C919 doesn’t have a single order outside of China (GE leasing has signed up, but I’m expecting them to lease to Chinese carriers).
C919 is about 10-15 years behind the 737.
In regards to seats, those are to the specifications of the air carrier, not the manufacturer. An air carrier chooses the density of the seating, how many seats in first class, how many in coach, pitch of the seat, distance between seats, etc. Yes, the manufacturer builds them to the certification standards of the governing authority (FAA, EASA) but the comfort is not the sole result of the manufacturer.
Airlines order the internal packages they want. Its the airlines that pick the seating configs.
Speedy, the seats are on the airlines not the airframe manufacturer. Airbus has a different philosophy of control systems — a dead stick approach rather than the proprioceptive system that Boeing uses.
About anything Boeing makes is better than Airbusted.
The 737 has been around for 18 years longer than the 319. As a aircraft mech I personally know the 737 is 100% better than the 319/320 programs....everything airbus builds is fiber modified vs Boeing using metal there by making it repairable airbus aircraft are a flying junk yard ...

I’m FAA/FCC licensed. I worked at NWA from 1987-2006.
First in the avionics shop at MSP, then in the check hangars across the field.
Airbus tries very hard to sell aircraft with a contractual agreement to do the majority of maintenance out-of-house.
Not at NWA...now Delta.
The control heads in the cockpit, for the avionics suite in the aircraft, was poorly designed.
Instead of the gold-standard for the avionics electrical connections, Airbus had tin/lead connectors between the internal electronics and the face-plate readout. So what you say...we’re talking about a difference in engineering...the Boeing’s/MDC/Lockheed, etc...represented quality...the same quality that allows C-47/DC-3’s to be still flying around the world. Aerobus...on the other hand, is designed entropy to ensure a steady flow of repairs to vendors that are part of the avionics suite.
Now...let’s get to the nuts and bolts of the Airbus aircraft. It was designed to be an approximately 15 year airframe....then onto the next Airbus offering.
Airlines found out that the Airbus A318/319/320&321 family of aircraft were designed with standard bolts through wing spars for the engine mounts.
What say ye??? All American designed aircraft have interference fit bolts at these points. Why? Imagine...If you can...the amount of agitation at these critical points. Lets see, extreme temperatures from ground to flight altitude to ground again. Let us not forget the longitudinal and lateral forces during take-off, flight and landing.
Standard bolt to hole size doesn’t work. Neither does close tolerance work.
Only interference fit provides the safest and longest solution in aircraft design.
Interference fit IS the highest quality of design. What is it? The bolt is larger than the hole...NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
How can that be?????
Interference fit works like this...the hole is slightly smaller than the bolt...put bolt into liquid nitrogen...it shrinks about 1-2 thousands of an inch...insert, by hammering with a brass-headed hammer...bolt warms up...and for a good long time...the mountings are secure.
Airbuses design of entropy cost them a lot, under warranty, subsidized by the EU, because most of this happened with 10 years of the aircraft entering service.
You can be driven by your own needy observation as a customer...but, I’ve told you only a small amount of the entropy in Airbuses design.
We called the Airbus...the “SCAREBUS” at NWA...the Freddy Krueger of airplanes.

Do you really think the FBI/CIA...etc., are the agencies of 30/40/50...etc., years ago? So why do you think the FAA is any less compromised? Because you want to...you need to maintain a fuzzy, comfortable world?!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I’m retired, but, suddenly, over the last 3-4 years I’ve been inundated with offers of employment from many hiring sources, with employment offers in aviation.
Why? Hmmmmmmmmmmm...let’s say, perchance, that the vast majority of youth don’t have basic mechanical/electrical...mastering the cell-phone/computer universe doesn’t apply...exposure, in a hands on way?
I have flying benefits with Delta, due the NWA merger, and I would rather drive than fly, unless, time is of the essence.
NWA was the 4th largest airline in the world, prior to Delta’s acquisition, and had the oldest average age of a fleet of aircraft in the world...and, yet, for about 20 years, it managed to maintain the number 1 “on-time-airline” in-spite on it’s average fleet age.
Why? Competent maintenance.
Live your comfort dream...and please, have no thought of reality.
