What a loser year and out of touch set of Oscars:

Best Pictures?!

We saw only Dunkirk and that was a really lousy movie. Definitely not traditional Oscar material unless the field is so incredibly bad that it passes as a good movie.

Maybe voting with pocket book, top grossing 2017 movies? None of the Oscar movies are even in the Top 10! Dunkirk made it to 14th and none of the others are even on the list.

  1. Star Wars: The Last Jedi
  2. Beauty and the Beast
  3. Wonder Woman
  4. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.
  5. Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle
  6. Spider-Man: Homecoming
  7. IT
  8. Thor: Ragnarok
  9. Despicable Me 3
  10. Justice League

Better list. We've actually seen several of these. Marvel is doing well. Among these, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is best and should get best picture nomination. My twin 10 year old boys would like pick the same. Star Wars made more money but was a very bad story and, in my opinion, damaged the franchise. But they didn't ask me.

What did you see, your picks?

The fact that there’s not a single original story or idea in the top 10 grossing movies is quite revealing.

Your last list shows an amazing lack of diversity.

Appears to me as an electronic/image equivalent of an opium den; with it's participants wafting away to various dream worlds of fantasy.

Will only fake stories and flashy, high-speed computer imagery be able to cut thru to America's future collective mind?

What sub-conscious ideas and thoughts are being planted; just awaiting a trigger in the future?

Call Me by Your Name: no desire to see a fag movie
Darkest Hour: sucked. Half the movie was Churchill weeping and Gary Oldman acting. Acting, I say!
Dunkirk: as a stand-alone movie, it was ok. As a depiction of the Dunkirk event, it sucked
Get Out: haven't seen it because it looks too stupid
Lady Bird: movie for tween girls
Phantom Thread: never heard of it
The Post: haven't seen it because it looks like yet another self-pleasuring wank film for the media establishment
The Shape of Water: sucked. It is essentially a blue-haired SJW beastiality fantasy. And did I mention it has a prominent fag?
Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri: sucked. It is yet another hate-propaganda Hollywood depiction of what they THINK flyover country is like.

"What did you see, your picks?"

Nothing, but your post is interesting. In the same way that Jann Wenner had control of the RNR Hall of Fame noms wrested away from him -- in order to keep the Museum going -- to finally recognize top-earning AOR acts like Yes & ELO that Jann's personal animosity had prevented for decades, one wonders if Oscars are finally going to have to open up their voting to top-earning escape fare like the MCU.
