Scoop: Besieged Sessions dines with Rosenstein in show of solidarity
Axios ^ | Feb 28, 2018 | staff

If Donald Trump finally follows through on his rage and fires Jeff Sessions, the image with this story will be printed in history books.

Tonight at 7:35pm, the Attorney General strode into a high-end Washington restaurant to dine with his deputy Rod Rosenstein and the Solicitor General Noel Francisco.

The symbolism was unmistakable: the three top ranking officials in the Justice Department appearing together in a show of solidarity on the same day Trump is publicly and privately raging about Sessions.

When Trump sees this photo he'll have to absorb a concept that some of his aides have been trying to impress upon him for nearly a year, since he first began telling them he wanted to get rid of Sessions.

The concept: Fire Sessions, then what next? Are you going to fire Rosenstein too? And then what after that?

Sources close to the situation say today feels different than Trump's usual rages. Sessions' allies are deeply concerned and Trump is totally fed up with his AG.

Trump has been taunting and publicly humiliating Sessions for months now, but his tweet this morning was as rough as any he's sent:

"Why is A.G. Jeff Sessions asking the Inspector General to investigate potentially massive FISA abuse. Will take forever, has no prosecutorial power and already late with reports on Comey etc. Isn’t the I.G. an Obama guy? Why not use Justice Department lawyers? DISGRACEFUL!"

Don’t fire them, reassign them.

Put them under oath and tell them to start talking.

Enough of this bullstalin “investigation” cover for a coup.

So the same day Trump criticizes Sessions, Sessions goes out to dinner with one of the FISA court signatories, and you don’t think that sends a signal.

Surely they are aware of their high profile and that they would be photographed.

Did not look like a working meeting, so they should have cancelled the dinner given the circumstances as appearances matter...

I know some good things are happening for the country, but this administration is utterly dysfunctional. In fighting, constant resignations, incompitent people in over their head and a POTUS who is all over map on issues like DACA and gun control.

Whats even crazier is it still is better than having Madame President. This country is full scale decline.

As an Alabamian, I will bite. I know several people who know him personally and would vouch to their deaths for his integrity. When he was my Senator, I knew that I never had to call him, because he would do what was right for our country. I had always defended him.

Now....I do not know what to think. It seems that there is another “acting” AG in his place.

He will play a pivotal role in American History for his role, or lack thereof, in seeking justice for what has been glaringly obvious criminality and the sellout of our country.

I will add that it is also very painful to see what this state did to his Senate seat. I never had dreamed that our State would play such an integral role in all of this. I have spent years blaming the people of Illinois, California, New York, and Massachusetts (Oh, I will add Arizona!)for sending such poor representation to Washington for the rest of us to suffer under their legislation and decrees.

I deeply apologize for not realizing the worst of the worst could have come from right here in AL. The verdict is still out, but the courtroom spectators (We the people), have an uneasy feeling as to which way it will go.

“And you believe this Q crap? *snicker*”

No, actually have studied very little about Q and will always be skeptical of those I don’t know. My remark to trust Sessions based on a random Q statement was intended with a hint of sarc.

I only meant to say I am giving Sessions a lot of leeway and waiting to see what he does when he gets the IG report. I said last year I’d wait that long and though Sessions hasn’t filled me with confidence, I’ll still hold out and give JS benefit of the doubt until then.

simpleton surrender monkeys on FR...

Clever.

So you think it is fake news that Sessions went out with a FISA Court Signatory to prove a point? The same guy who appointed Mueller? Oh and they went out for a nice dinner on the same day as Trump criticized Sessions?

No coincidence there, yeah sure.

I would rather be a “simpleton surrender monkey that sits in front of computer whining all day...”** than part of the naive ignorant, and/or complacent electorate watching this country go further and further into the abyss.

**BTW, just what are YOU doing since you indicate that you are not sitting in front of computer all day whining like a little girl...

All I know is unless Trump and Sessions are playing good cop/bad cop, in cahoots together, and Sessions is about to fire Rosenstein and issue 25 or so indictments, if that's not true, then Trump is at a decision point. Unless a giant sting is going on, and instead Sessions is playing footsie with Rosenstein and the deep state, then he needs to go, along with Rosenstein. Bring in Mark Levin or some guy from Kansas who's a pit bull.

How about Joe diGenova? Does a new AG have to go through the senate confirmation crap? Can't Trump appoint an interim 'emergency' AG who eventually gets confirmed?

Oh, okay...I asked because you didn't use the FR "/s" at the end, so wasn't certain you were being sarcastic or one of the Q cultists.

After over a year on the job, Sessions has proved himself to be worse than useless as AG. I'm giving him no more chances!

You do know, don't you, that the IG really doesn't have all that much "power".

And Sessions' late night comment, vis-a-vis his dinner tonight: THIS WAS JUST A DINNER WITH 'THE BOYS' AND HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH TRUMP", is just plain old crap!

Jarrett did not say Session’s is compromised. I did. Jarrett said Rosenstein is running DOJ.

Sorry my post wasn’t clear.
**************************************************************
And, IMHO, Jarrett is correct. Sessions is little more than a meek puppet doing the bidding of his Deep State DOJ staff who are, in effect, his puppet masters. Sessions has no concept of leadership.

What is your highest expectation of what Sessions will do when the IG report is released? And what is your expectation of what Rosenstein will do?

“Very disappointing. Sessions appears to be deep state.”

Man, the meltdown here among too many of our FRiends gets worse.

President Trump trolls the hell out of the enemies of the Constitution and folks here take the bait: hook, line and sinker.

It’s troll bait for them not you. SMH, at least the IG report from Michael Horowitz isn’t far off. Neither is the second special counsel appointment.

Judas Priest, get ahold of yourselves people. It’s Axios, a DNC Media subsidiary.
