Special Counsel Robert Mueller moved Tuesday to dismiss nearly two-dozen charges against former Trump campaign associate Rick Gates, in the wake of his guilty plea last week.

Mueller’s team filed a motion to drop 22 tax and bank fraud charges against Gates. The filing was tied to Gates’ agreement last week to plead guilty to conspiracy to defraud the United States and lying to the FBI.

That plea pertained to charges filed against him in October in Washington, D.C., for which he still faces up to 71 months in prison.

So, what’s the deal? Testimony about when Trump decided to run for president?

Just as the Deep Staters thought Hillary would win, they now think they will be able to impeach President Trump and get a Deep Stater into the White House. The only alternative to this belief is for them to commit suicide.

Something is wrong with this type of justice to pile on and bully a conviction, then drop all the rest. How many people end up with guilty pleas or cooperation when they are innocent and simply can't afford to fight the persecution?

And I know little of the details re Gates, maybe he deserves the attention and convictions. I just don't like the way it is done.

They are busy creating a crime. They better be prepared for the Blowback.

“Testimony about when Trump decided to run for president?”

Shouldn’t need testimony, it’s all public record. It was either the day he announced, or when his first presidential filings were made, whichever came first (likely being his announcement).

As to anything prior, if he’s human he gave it a lot of thought and there were likely days that he identified as a candidate, and days he did not. Saying he’s a candidate one day, does not make him a candidate the next day...no more than me saying it.

At least that would be my defense...and it would work, at least on appeal.

Modus Operandi of Mueller and all special prosecutors. Make numerous charges and agree to dismiss them if the one they are going after agrees to admit to lying. They are a disgusting bunch.

Mueller is building a house of cards case that will fall the very moment he tries to move against Trump.

It’s unnerving.

If the expense of a team of lawyers, needed to knock down and tear apart each of 24 very serious *federal* charges, is out of reach for Rick Gates and General Flynn. Imagine the dilemma for the little guy.

As you say, Gates may be guilty, but how will we ever know whether any or some, or all, of the charges were true or false? Certainly looks like a pile on.

The word “jackboots” comes to mind. In suits.

The random dude from California who plead guilty to helping the Russian fraudulently conceal foreign transactions might have confessed for want of resources. The rest of them have had the resources and connections to enable them to present a vigorous defense at trial. It should be clear by now that Flynn, Papadopoulos and Gates do not anticipate that President Trump will be able to issue them pardons. This may mean that they believe that Mueller has evidence that will deny the President the political space in which to issue pardons. This would be something like evidence that Manafort coordinated with the Russians during his time at the helm but the coordination was limited to Manafort. Such a finding would vindicate the President but make it politically dangerous to issue pardons. There are of course other possibilities of varying flavors of plausibility. But there is a reason these men are pleading guilty and that reason is that someone is guilty of something and something big. These pleas aren’t for probation after all, Gates agreed to a nearly 5 year recommendation. That is not I’m innocent but think of the children time. That is I am guilty as sin but let me tell you about my friend who I can prove is even more guilty time. They all know who the friend is and what he did and they are all running scared. We are not nearly worried enough.

The Mule thinks he can convince America to give Congress to the Democrats in November. He is about to find himself exposed , swinging nude in the wind blowing up the Potomac. His prosecutorial politics is about to come to a screaming crashing end.

Why do you say? America has moved on.And anyone who gets in the way will be run over by a freight train of resolute freedom.

The thinking that the Mueller investigations ultimate goal will be impeachment of President Trump has always seemed a bridge too far. I think the most likely outcome is to create a new “Scooter Libby” for this administration so that the Democrats can continue the fiction that “Trump colluded” come the elections. It’s a thin reed to cling to, but it is something and majority of Democrats ain’t too bright to begin with.

The way things sit now it looks like Manafort will be the goat.

Ok, since you believe all of what you posted, what do you think Mueller is going after? Do you seriously think Trump decided to run for president when some Russian planted the idea into his head? Or that somehow Putin and Trump decided, hey, you run for president and we'll figure out a way to make you win because Hillary is going to be the Dem candidate. Then she will take over the DNC, have her secret use of a non-secured email server come out, be a lousy candidate, collapse during the 9/11 memorial, etc?

If Mueller is going down that road, it's preposterous. Sure, he can manufacture something that seems like a crime, but it's still preposterous. Trump had talked about possibly running for president years (and numerous election cycles) before he finally did.

couldn’t one accuse Mueller of the crime of “blackmail” here because he uses his power to collect a ransom from a target?
