BOCA RATON, Fla. (CBS12) — Rep. Bill Hager (Boca Raton), the chairman of the Florida House of Justice Appropriations, has called on Gov. Rick Scott to remove Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel - a power the governor has under Florida law - from his post for neglect of duty and incompetence in regards to the shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School.
In his letter to the governor on Saturday, Hager said that various media outlets reported that the School Resource Officer, Scot Peterson, and three deputies under Sheriff Israel's command "were on campus at the time of the attack and chose to take cover themselves rather than stepping up to protect our students."
Rep. Hager also mentioned the number of times police were called to Nikolas Cruz's home.
"The Sheriff was fully aware of the threat this individual presented to the community and chose to ignore it," Rep. Hager said.
He continued to remind the governor that this wasn't the first time a review of the Broward Sheriff's Office has been conducted. He said that, according to reporting conducted by a local journalist, a report after the Fort Lauderdale Airport shooting in 2017 found that the sheriff's office failed to set up a unified command structure, among other faults during the emergency.
Hager's legislative aid said that due to this, the representative proposes "that certain dollars currently scheduled for appropriation for the Broward Sheriff's Office be redirected...to initiate a pilot program in Broward County that will integrate and analyze data from various law enforcement, courts, state agencies, and school districts to better assess risk and keep our citizens safe."

Broward County, Florida, Sheriff, Scott Israel is far more then just a political hack. The blood of those innocent children and adults murdered is dripping from his filthy Democrat hands. Governor, Rick Scott, fire this deadbeat, useless, low life, clone of Democrat, Congresswoman, Debbi Wasserman Schultz, immediately!!!
During my career, I spent time in Tel Aviv, having exposure to the IDF & the IAF air & security forces. This human waste, Scott Israel is an insult to the nation of Israel and all the magnificent brave Israeli men & women that serve this “God’s” nation!!!
Sheriff, Scott Israel belongs wading in an acid cesspool for eternity, where he can beg our Lord’s forgiveness for the murders he allowed to occur via his brash & coarse ego, elitist mantra!!! What a waste of a human being!!! SAD...Broward County voters...you should hang your heads in shame. Fact is: You are all too dumb to realize this guy stood by while your kids were slaughtered, doing nothing!!! Bravo, Wasserman Schultz & Scott Israel....not!!! Broward County, Florida, Sheriff Scott Israel makes it clear: ex-school deputy Scot Peterson should have gone into Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School and shot and killed gunman Nikolas Cruz on Feb. 14.
When we in law enforcement arrive at an active-shooter, we go in and address the target and that’s what should have been done,” he said at a Thursday press conference.”
Procedures indicate Peterson at least had the department’s go-ahead to enter the building and take down Cruz.
Department policy states a deputy first contact agency communications, so it can call the SWAT team. Then, it’s up to the deputy.
“If real-time intelligence exists the sole deputy or a team of deputies may enter the area and/or structure to preserve life,” the policy states. “A supervisor’s approval or on-site observation is not required for this decision.”
Real-time intelligence is a deputy’s “personal observation of people fleeing, gunfire, etc.” Peterson “clearly” knew there was a shooting, Israel said.”
In Florida the governor may remove/appoint “constitutional” elected county officials such as sheriff, supervisor of elections, tax collector, etc.

It doesn’t happen often but I think people are fed up with the sheriff but I think he needs a chance to explain his side info the story.
Oh, no doubt. Surrounded by supporters, he will spin it as an attack on the good people in his department, who work hard every day to keep the people of Broward safe. And a distraction from the important work they are all now doing. A politically-motivated distraction at that. Such attacks, he will continue, are disgusting, and driven by the powerful gun industry lobby, who will stop at nothing to keep putting children at risk. He will ask simply, and he will use the word “simply”, to be given the chance to get back to work for the good people of Broward County.

As soon as he stood in front of a camera and said he’s “sick to his stomach” about the SRO’s lack of action, I knew he was a lying POS - more like he’s sick to his stomach it’ll be discovered how corrupt and incompetent his office is.
CNN will never ask him those questions.
CNN will pivot quickly to gun control.
Broward County got precisely the government they deserve.
And THAT is why 17 innocent Americans are dead.

Looks like by law the governor can suspend Israel. Who can ARREST him for 17 counts of negligent homicide?
