Full title:

Trump calls campus deputy who hid from school gunman a 'coward' and says: 'He certainly did a poor job'

'So he certainly did a poor job,' Trump repeated. 'But that's a case where, somebody who was outside, they're trained, they didn't react properly under pressure or they were a coward. It was a real shot to the police department.'

Suppose he’d shot Cruz AND somebody else.

Good AND unfortunate.

You cannot let the possibility of collateral damage prevent you from doing what needs to be done. In all likelihood, far less damage is done if the shooter is neutralized with collateral damage than allowing the shooter to continue unchallenged. You realize that any time the shooter used to defend himself is time he cannot use to target unarmed victims. Even if the armed guard had unsuccessfully engaged the shooter for a short period of time, that might have been enough time for some of the students who bacame casualties to have escaped the scene or to have found a safe spot. Throughout history, many brave men and women have sacrificed their lives just to buy some time so others can escape.

In 2015, Peterson urged Broward County schools to keep the jobs of school resource officers, who were provided lodging in trailers as part of their perks.

Maybe this was what they meant when Peterson was described as being, "Elsewhere".

Maybe he was kicking it in the RV when the shooter walked onto campus.

Again, school cop duty is seen as a very, "Cush" duty.

Given the general reluctance of police to engage the enemy as evidenced at Columbine and The Pulse, it seems there are a lot of “wrong guys”.

Yeah, it appears a lot of firemen need to become cops, and a lot of cops need to become FIRED!.

What's that expression? "Some people are sheep. Some people are wolves. And some people are sheepdogs."

You sound like a sheepdog, and that is what I would aspire to be.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Okay, let’s suppose that. So please continue the thought experiment/exercise you have initiated.

BTW - oh, never mind......

It seems like it would be cush duty.

Thing is, this guy is now going to have to live with it the rest of his days. I doubt it will go away after a few drinks.

Until the LEO administration’s culture of “The most important thing is to make sure you go home at the end of each shift” is changed this kind of thing will continue.

A person with a gun isn’t armed, like a person with a guitar isn’t a musician. Training and dedication to effectively deploy the firepower and the courage to do so.

What does this mean? He was trained on a regular basis for 32 years as a cop. And Btw, one can be very untrained and kill lots of people very effectively.

That, in fact, happened here, with the ROTC students who were killed.

Fake News headline. Selective, out of context, incomplete quotation.

Sigh. Yes. But is is an object example of a difference in the way people view these things, isn’t it?

When people like him are murdered, we consistently and correctly blame the shooter. They blame the weapon.

I think the larger point is valid...it is upstairs that drives what is in the hand.

I often discuss this with people who don’t own firearms, and sometimes I get the impression they think anyone who carries is some kind of cowboy in search of a shootout.

Anyone with a firearm should realize that the day you have to shoot someone is probably the worst day of your life. Even with a justifiable shoot, most humans will be haunted by using potentially fatal force against another human, at least right-thinking ones should be. Once the threat has been neutralized, you better immediately call your attorney because you'll need that attorney (and possibly, more) in the months to come, even in a justifiable shoot.

This isn't like TV or Mexico where people get shot and law enforcement just looks the other way. The consequences of actions, whether intentional or not, can be huge. Hopefully, the presence of your gun defuses the situation and doesn't escalate it because that is the last thing that you want.

It could be worse, it could be the last day of your life.

Upstairs? He ‘head’ said he did a good job. He saw no problem and said so publicly.

I was speaking figuratively.

I agree with you completely on this end of it...I read his comments and thought “He thinks he did a good job? Really? He has a long time left in life to keep telling himself that...”

He is rationalizing it to himself, and he knows it.
