The sheriffs deputy who failed to engage the shooter at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School believed he did a good job because he called in the location of the massacre and gave a description of the shooter, a top union official said Thursday.
School resource officer Scot Peterson, who resigned in disgrace from the Broward County Sheriffs Office, was distraught about shooting that killed 17 people but believed he did his duty, according to the president of the Broward Sheriffs Office Deputies Association.
He believed he did a good job calling in the location, setting up the perimeter and calling in the description (of Cruz), said the union official, Jim Bell.

He should have had he been anywhere in the vicinity of the shooter.
Thank again Twink.
I told another poster how I would react. I’m not sure I wouldn’t have acted differently than I said I would, because I’m not really all that afraid of dying anymore.
There are other things to think about though.
Not every kid in a classroom is going to find a closet. They’ll be around the perimeter of the room.
If you walk in, there are almost bound to be kids right behind the shooter. Then what?
There you are face to face with a guy who has no concern who he kills, and you can’t take a chance on killing kids.
“He really does. If he hasnt got a lawyer already he needs to get one fast . And the first thing a lawyer would tell him to do is to shut his pie hole.”
What did Peterson say?
what part about human chain didn’t you get? So the victims are being victimized some more by being perp walked by the leo’s after their previous ordeal. Sounds pretty Nazi-esque to me. “Our current handling...” implies you’re a leo.
You are right!!
Post 46, I agree with your analysis of the situation. No public employee is required to run into a building with an active shooter, by himself, for this is not what SWAT officers would do, they go in as a team. I will not armchair quarterback. Bottom line, we must begin a building program to change every public school building into a fortress school. The Republicans should make this an issue, give grants to every school district so they can do what my school district did about five years ago, build a new high school that is all contained in one multi-story building with bulletproof glass and high-end security, plus its own police force with guns. Then they tore down the old campus style buildings. Safety and jobs.
Not sure why you want to be a jerk, but for every officer that calls for a perimeter, others set it up. That means others set it up and I went.
I would never ask another person to do what I wouldn't do myself. You are hella rude, come on.
He worked at the school and he did nothing.
He was there to protect the kids and he didn’t.
If he called in a description of the shooter, then he had him in his sights.
Nope. Again you are wrong.
That “cop” had a service pistol. More than likely 17 rounds of 40sw, plus an extra mag. The ROTC kid had nothing but courage.
LOL! He was there to protect the kids?
Nope.
“Theyre doing a good job if they make a phone call.”
The definition downward of superlatives has to also include positive non-superlatives.
In a world of “heroes” nobody was there to intercept this lost soul and prevent him from killing these kids.
I guess this cop grudgingly accepts his inactions are less than heroic.
Yes, the JR ROTC kid is now a hero according to the MSM. Sigh. Maybe he was. Who knows? David Hogg is also a survivor of the Parkland shooting. I have my doubts. Regardless, these emotional based stories are not facts.
>>Haha, 1 man perimeter? You cant make this sh1t up...
>>Did he at least have two radios?
And a piece of string.
When seconds count, the police are only on a 20 minute tape delay...
Why of course, go with the local Sheriff who had this guy in custody a number of times and his department did nothing.
Sounds like an unbiased guy to me.
Depending on how the departments are configured down there, this sheriff could lose his job.
The only way he wouldn’t is if a local police department were the arresting agency that 30 times. That may be the case, so that would nullify my comment about his bias here.
Look, officers get called to the scene where a shooter is, they do not rush the building. They wait until there is a decent crew there and then they methodically clear the building.
In addition, responding officers have vests, some form of long rifle, and other resources at their disposal.
We’re talking about a lone ranger officer on a big campus with only a side-arm.
He didn’t act any differently than first single officers showing up at a mass shooting in a large building.
That sheriff either knows that or he is flat ass lying. And if he doesn’t know it, what’s that tell you?
Thank you.
I said essentially the same thing this afternoon. Impossible to cover that huge school campus and get inside the right building, the right floor, at the right time, when the assault itself was over in six minutes and the deputy knows nothing with clarity. Is the shooter moving from place to place? Is there more than one shooter?
So Dana Loesch said tonight on HANNITY, even after local officers screamed to the school, it took them FOUR MINUTES before even THEY entered the building.
Are they suspended, as well?
Thanks Tschatski.
