Broward County sheriff's deputies will now carry AR-15 rifles while on school campuses following the shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, last week, Sheriff Scott Israel announced today.
The new policy was implemented Wednesday morning. In lieu of gun lockers, the only time deputies will not be "slinging a rifle" is when the firearm is locked in police vehicles, Israel said.
The rifles will not be fully automatic and will only be handled by deputies who are "trained and qualified" to operate them, Israel said.

Why do you want to spend so much of my money when there is a much cheaper and more effective method? You want to make our day prison for kids really look like a day prison. Why not surround the schools with 10 foot barbed wire topped fences and put watchtowers on the corners? I see no problem with that since expense is obviously no object. Concealed carry. The would perp does not know who is armed, does not know whom to shoot first. These guys do not want to take the chance that they will die before making their “statement.” CC is all that is needed. It costs way the hell less than armed guards and metal detectors and all the crap that accompanies that. But of course, being a Freeper, I suppose that an elaborate and totally government involved solution is the only sort of thing permissible.
Hells yes, in a school.
My kid's elementary school has halls that long, let alone a high school. And that doesn't even take outside "portables" into account.
CHL keeps them guessing
I’d rather die with a gun in my hand trying to protect someone...than not.
Don’t get me started about unarmed check points. Lets stand around in one spot for no particular reason...
You gotta be one proud papa ;-)
I got that saying during desert storm ..... allegedly it was original from our SECDEF MadDog before he was famous.
Made my family sit through some video of an iraqi torture chamber and polaroids the iraqi’s took and left on the wall that I kept....... jumper cables and welders, rasps, glass soda pop bottles inserted into orifices and broken with steel rods, MAPP torches, side cutters etcetera .
Made my teens watch and look at the murder media . Make your own judgment calls, you want to be the victim ?
Damn good advice....FRiend.
LOL ..... loiter, move stir and repeat. Never be where your supposed to be but always be where your able to have an advantage ....
I wish I could come but at this moment it would be as a bum. I’ve hit a low low low place. I’m in nearly godless Gainesville, FL where I went to take a job with a company mired in corruption. We didn’t agree. Adios muchachos. Looking in vain for more high tech that wants me. That last gig looks like tomcat piss on my resume.
Yeah I found yotes. Urban Dictionary! Why is there no Redneck Dictionary?
When in some positions...be very aware.
Amen
I hear ya.
My favorite is "take a knee."
Hell, if I could get another knee, I WOULD take it ;-)
agreed.
Now tell EVERYONE
She's already got one...
If you count "nerf" ;-)
Always.
My other two are boys. Heavily armed boys.
One just bought his first pistol to go along with the AR-15 he built.
The other has a home built AR, a 12 gauge and just got a box today for his Glock build kit.
That doesn’t include the 150 or so knives they have between them.
Great hobbies
Thank-you for your duty.......
Was not in the military myself. My dad was though...he was a Marine in WWII and Korea. He taught me well....
I've passed those lessons onto my family....
I hope they never forget them...........
You are dreaming stupid dreams if you think an armed guard is totally aware 100 per cent and 360 degrees. You would need several. Why iot rurn the teachers into armed guards? allow them CC permits and advertise that fact. The bad guy then doesn’t know who he has to shoot first.
But there is a gambling game called yote’. And then there is an archaic word yote which means to soak (as a grain) in liquid. I’m yoting my grain to make some beer.
