The parents of first lady Melania Trump have become legal permanent residents of the United States and are close to obtaining their citizenship, according to people familiar with their status, but their attorney declined to say how or when the couple gained their green cards.
Immigration experts said Viktor and Amalija Knavs very likely relied on a family reunification process that President Trump has derided as “chain migration” and proposed ending in such cases.
The Knavses, formerly of Slovenia, are living in the country on green cards, according to Michael Wildes, a New York-based immigration attorney who represents the first lady and her family.

Our Congress for decades has invited in millions of Islamic “refugees,” who in turn brought in millions more, unskilled, on welfare, disdainful of America, and making up stories from whole cloth. I have met families from 3rd world country that claim every single person was lucky enough to get a green card under the green card lottery!
Fraud, false identities, pretend marriages that are really short-term contracts, pretend children, pretend grandmothers, “uncles,” children whom U.S. lawyers helped come in through the first in each chain, not uncommonly through falsification. The Left have no shame to try to make an issue of our first lady’s parents moving to the U.S. and doing so legally.

“My dear elderly parents need to come here,” then the parents come here and say “Oh, let my other son in,” then the son’s wife comes in, and the son’s wife’s parents, and the son’s other wife’s parents, and their kids, and before you know it you have a whole nest of filthy immigrants all living in a one bedroom apartment and taking taxpayer money.
Each adult member applies as an individual.
If your wife or dad can’t get in, there’s a reason for that and they can stay in whatever third world poophole they come from.
Good point, and they have sponsors who can afford to pay for their keep. If they’re getting some sort of government assistance, that should addressed if they’re not contributing to it.

But the media doesn’t see it as hypocritical that they don’t want Melania’s family to live here, but they want millions of low-wage earners who cost more than they contribute to live here.

There is a man who owns a liquor store close to where I live, he came to this country about 15 years ago on some sort of visa, since then he has managed to get his parents here his 7 brothers and sisters + their spouses and all of their children a GRAND TOTAL of 31 people chain migrating from ONE GUY!!!! That is insanity !!!!

DACA’s parents may have also come here legally (green cards and temp visas, etc) but they never even tried to become actual citizens and go through the legal process.

Straw man argument, even if they did it was the policy allowed when they came. Still doesn’t mean that it is an acceptable immigration policy that should continue. President Trump is not arguing for those who came here that way to be returned, just that the policy needs to end. Bottom line though is that they are legally working toward citizenship. Also I’ll bet they never collected assistance from the government, so they haven’t caused the taxpayers one red cent.

“we are a country of immigrants”... yes, and when they came in from europe, they had to have a trade (a way of making a living), they had to have a sponsor here, they had to have a job waiting for them, they had to have a place to stay, if they were sick they were refused on ship.. and they had to assimilate and become a citizen in around 7 years. and they were recorded... every one of them are on record.. what ship they came on, who they had with them (children), how old they were, where they came from and what they did there, how long they planned on staying if not permanent, who their relatives were where they came from..
Today, those who have come here illegally, we do not know who they are or where they are.. we have no record at all of all who have come here.. and for my estimation, we have already lost our country to them and to those who side with them over our own laws and our own country!
