Thousands of students across Florida have walked out of their classrooms in protest over gun laws as they showed support for the teen survivors of the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High shooting who are rallying in the state's Capitol.

Students from across the entire state participated in the mass walk out to honor the 17 people killed in the deadly massacre in Parkland a week ago.

The vast majority of teen protesters gathered on Wednesday at the scene of the shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High wearing the school's colors and brandishing signs.

They have vowed to make the tragedy a turning point in America's deadlocked debate on gun control.

In Florida, not being in public school is pretty much the same as being in public school ....

Protest what?

Inadequate security, law enforcement, FBI followthrough, metal detectors, surveillance equipment, concealed carry?

The idea that taking away guns from citizens would stop these attacks is ludicrous. There is plenty of factual evidence to support that such measures result in worse crime.

If it were possible to convince the public to repeal the second amendment or make some sort of end run around it, it would take a century to get rid of all the guns. And that would only be after a long, bloody, costly civil war (which will probably be won by advocates of the second amendment).

Those who don’t believe in citizens’ right to be armed should simply move somewhere else more to their liking.

These ideas about age limits on buying a gun presume that individuals under 21 aren't adult enough to own an AR-15.

If that is true then they aren't adult enough for some other activities either - like voting.

How about proposing something along these lines:

You can't buy or own an AR-15, drive a car, buy booze or cigarettes, go to X-rated movies, enter a night club or vote in federal or state elections

• If you are under 21

• If you are on your parents medical insurance plan

• If your parents claim you as a dependent on their federal or state taxes

• If you are a student in school or college

• If you have been taking drugs or smoking dope

• If you are under a doctor's care for mental issues or drug addiction

• If you are living on welfare but are healthy and able to work

• If you are in arrears on paying back a college loan

• If you have been found guilty of a misdemeanor or felony.

This is the stuff that really hurts our side. We are by no means any less sympathetic to the horror of violence, murder and destruction by a deranged subhuman monster. Most of these incidents could have been prevented. My cynical side says that most on the left have no inclination to solves any problems or admit the real reasons.
