I agree with you, but thanks to another Amendment - the Freedom of Religion - you can’t legislate people to follow God. Therefore you have to have something to control those who don’t.
It’s taken over a hundred years for the nation of migrate away from God, do you think it would any quicker getting them back? Especially with today’s environment, like diversity, different religions, etc.
Sure, following God would solve all the problems, but God gave humans free will, and there’s the rub.
Figure out a way around that and human nature, and get back to me.
