It takes several defensive shooters. I suspect the poor guard had a glock 19 . The campuses out here that have trained coaches and ex military and have ar15s in a central safe as well as accessible pistols. They also have communications head sets they practice with for coordination and triangulation of targets. after training they practice on site 1 time a month on Saturday. They work on multiple shooters as well single shooters. They have both tactical defensive plans as well as offensive . The idea is to set defensive lines while police and sheriff units arrive with real swat guys. They have to shoot 100 rounds per quarter at 15. 25 and 50 feet. The AR15 crew has additional practice requirements. We will see metal detectors in schools very soon. Nothing is perfect but something is better than nothing. The answer is not to take our guns.
High schoolers that can’t do Algebra or basic physics equations learning environmental “science.” I would laugh if I weren’t trying so hard not to vomit.

It is 45 acres, that is big, but most of the building are clustered together. Yes, there should be more than one trained officer on site.
My question remains: how could any armed officer not have heard 150 discharges, 3 of which were outside, and likely lots of screaming, and the fire alarm, and likely lockdown alarms,
and not found the shooter?
I’ve been around that kind of firing, you can hear it and know its direction a mile away.
Of course, there are a number of military bases that offer CQB to law enforcement.
I don’t care if he had a broom. He should have found the shooter, kids are dying, it’s a bad job somedays, you rush the shooter with whatever you have.
I suspect that he stood down and waited for backup. That happened out here years ago until kids died and onsite protocal changed to rushing the shooter.
BTW, yes, the fire alarm would have masked gunfire inside a building to some degree.
But campuses are required by code to have the fire alarms zoned, each building with a stand alone alarm.
That fire alarm at that building with the shooter would further alert the officer to the trouble location.
And, if all the officer heard was the fire alarm, he should have come a running anyway to see if there was a fire.
I am sure the kids coming out would have told him what was going on.
No need to pay anything additional.
As I said in the second line of my previous post, just pull the cops off the street who are patrolling looking for minor violation like non-seat belt use and place them in the public schools.
A neighboring town here in Maine does just that....the cop also mentors the kids in the high school. It’s a very small police department, too.
Our owner decided the solution is to let CHL holders carry at work for no extra pay.
The Lawyers would go wild, but he is banking on us to take the hit legally and figurativly for no increase in pay.

I asked the local PD how we should resound to their response.
They basically said we will shoot you if we find you armed.
Apparently I was the only one in that meeting who got the note.
We have security team meetings where they stress. “we want your input” Then they ignore you and the same jackasses lay out the plan.
One jackroy said we need a code system like the cops, “code White” despite my objections is a natural disaster like a tornado bearing down LOL

I gave up my CPR first responder status when people started suing you for cracking a few ribs to get the heart started.
I saw this kid and he is mad as hell, but has no grip on reality.
He is in shock.
The school had a plan, a very flawed plan.
How does one “resource officer” cover 3000 students in a campus this size? And there was a large middle school complex next door.
The perp was aware of the systems and exploited them

One time there was a disgruntled teen thrown off my son’s sports team. I literally walked around the area and we looked for the best places to run to or lie flat if for some reason he approached, armed, angry. My kids even know the best places to hide in the house if there is ever a bad guy coming through it.
I hate people speaking out.

The Happy Land arsonist killed 87 people with $1 of gas and a match. The OKC bombers killed 168 people with fertilizer and fuel oil. No shooting in the U.S. has matched those numbers.
My attitude was that I only wanted the police to come and clean the perp(s) off the floor and walls.
Po Po don’t do that, they may haul off the carcass.
