Feinstein to Introduce Bill Setting Minimum Age for Rifle Purchasers

Brings rules for rifle sales in line with handguns, which already requires minimum 21 years of age

Washington—Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) today announced she will introduce legislation to raise the age requirement for purchasing rifles from gun dealers, including assault weapons like the AR-15, to 21 years.

“Under current law, licensed gun dealers cannot sell a handgun to anyone under 21, but they are allowed to sell assault rifles like the AR-15 to anyone over 18. This policy is dangerous and makes absolutely no sense.

“I plan to introduce a bill to require all firearms purchases from gun dealers be restricted to individuals who are at least 21 years old. If you can’t buy a handgun or a bottle of beer, you shouldn’t be able to buy an AR-15.

“This is common sense and I hope my Republican colleagues will join me in this effort.”

Nobody gets to require anything of me to exercise my rights. I can be responsible without anybody’s approval. I don’t care what you or anybody else thinks of that. BTW, the “shouting fire in a crowded theater” thing is pretty irrelevant. You might want to look into the history behind it.

I understand the sentiment, but this would be an error. A lot of good/great men are made from guys who were kind of lost at 18 and spent a couple of years in the military.

Just trying to make a point. I joined at 17.

Democrats used to argue in favor of all sorts of openness and liberties for 18 year olds (alcohol, voting, etc) under the mantra ‘if they are old enough to fight for their country they are old enough to ...’

If they are old enough to fight with an AR-15, aren’t they old enough to buy one?

The Left has no answers for these relatively rare violent events except hysteria and “solutions” that are laughable.

Another touchy-feely bill that will do absolutely nothing.

YUP; adult supervision in the 19 to 22 year old range.
Just how old do you think 2nd and 1st LT’s are, and that doesn’t even take into account the 19 year old Sgt’s.

If they want to raise the age to purchase a firearm to 21, then I demand they raise the voting age to 40.
Plus all voters must have a full time, wage paying job, and be real property owners.
When they pass that, then I will be open to CONSIDERING their proposal.

P.S. Glad you haven’t burst in to flame yet. ;-)

Thanks! I'm actually getting used to it. Still don't like it, though.

On this issue, I do have a problem with changing the rules for everybody because a few don't know how to cope with life. More armed teachers and parents would seem to be the answer in these evil times, not gun control.

What’s going to be age of consent?
21 for abortions?
21 to vote?
Draft age now 21?
Considered a dependent?

😹. We like Reno. All 4 seasons but usually dry humidity wise. Snow once in a while and usually gone soon. Some 100 degree days on occasion in the summer. Getting expensive house wise with low inventory.

I would go along with that deal. Though I don’t think the Dems would lose many votes that way as 18, 19 and 20 year olds don’t much get out and vote.
