A Ledyard student was arrested after he allegedly said he could buy a semi-automatic weapon, the principal told parents on Thursday.
Ledyard High School Principal Amanda Fagan said the specific purpose to reach out to parents was "to counter some false information that was posted today on a community forum on Facebook. That social media post indicated that a student at the high school had been arrested today for posting on the internet that he was going to shoot up the high school. That information, as presented is false."
On Thursday, a 17-year-old student allegedly said "I could buy an AR-15" during the first period at the high school, according to Fagan.
"In an abundance of caution, despite the fact that this student is a minor who cannot, in fact, legally purchase such a weapon, we made the decision to consult with the Ledyard police," Fagan said.

To me the principal is not at fault here.
The police on the other hand should know better.
They should have told the principal that they can not arrest the kid for making non-specific threats.
Then the police should have councilled the kid in a private room that making such statements will bring him undesirable attention.
Then his parents should have been notified of his stupid behavior.
I would think that the police are at fault here and not the principal. Although the principal did act stupidly.
No, all are at fault. The principal called the police. The cops come to these things dying to make an arrest to show how important they are. There is no reason for this other than the egos of all involved.
Maybe if he said, “Any number of us could have purchased that sort of weapon”, they would have acted against the whole student body......
All is correct. As with many things, this is a both/and situation, and not either/or.
Major lawsuit coming.
It is a well-established fact that he could have easily gone into New York City, or any local ghetto and purchased a gun.
He did not say he could legally purchase the gun, nor was his true statement for a reasonable person to be in fear of imminent harm.
Big bucks settlement.
Extend that to the 16yo that is given an AR for his birthday. His parents, being conscientious, teach him responsibility and he only touches it for hunting and range.
He tells his school friends he received an AR for his birthday within the hearing of a teacher.
BAM! Parents are arrested.
You forgot LIBERAL!
Whaddaya mean, "we"?
I assume the petty tyrant means his fellow communists, those who hate America and who sell weapons illegally.
Ledyard (CT) Student Arrested for Claiming They Could Buy Gun: Principal
Noun-pronoun agreement. Didn’t that used to be taught in what, first grade?
Not now. Remember that you can’t use “gender” anymore. No he/she (maybe transgender?)so it’s safer to use they.
