Florida gov calls on FBI director to resign, Sessions orders procedural review after FL shooting

The FBI received a tip with concerns about suspected Florida school shooter Nikolas Cruz but protocols were not followed and it was not investigated.

Florida Gov. Rick Scott is calling on FBI Director Christopher Wray to resign after discovering that the FBI failed to investigate a tip that the Florida school shooter could be plotting an attack. Scott on Friday sharply criticized the federal law enforcement agency, saying in a statement that the "FBI's failure to take action against this killer is unacceptable." The FBI acknowledged it failed to act on a tip to its hotline that Nikolas Cruz had a "desire to kill."

In a statement, Scott said that "an apology will never bring these 17 Floridians back to life or comfort the families who are in pain." U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio also criticized the FBI separately, saying it was "inexcusable" the FBI did not follow protocols. He said that Congress should launch its own investigations into what happened.

Attorney General Jeff Sessions is ordering a review of the Justice Department's processes after the FBI failed to investigate a tip that the Florida school shooting suspect could be plotting an attack. Authorities say 19-year-old Nikolas Cruz opened fire with a semi-automatic rifle at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Fla., on Feb. 14, 2018, killing 17 people.

Sessions said Friday the shooting that killed 17 people was a "tragic consequence" of the FBI's failures. He said it's now clear that the nation's premier law enforcement agency missed warning signs. The review will include a look at what went wrong and how the agency and Justice Department respond. Sessions says it may include "possible consultation with family members, mental health officials, school officials, and local law enforcement....

Back in 2013, the Broward County School Board adopted a program where they don’t relay information to police about troubled students.

It’s a move away from so-called “zero tolerance” policies that require schools to refer even minor misdemeanors to the police.

Under a new program adopted by the Broward County School District, non-violent misdemeanors — even those that involve alcohol, marijuana or drug paraphernalia — will now be handled by the schools instead of the police.

Parents of the dead and injured and terrorized kids should be immediately filing lawsuits against the Broward School Board.

Wray has been head of the FBI a very short time. He has not had time to clean up the mess left by his predecessors.

Rick Scott knows this. Scott should shut up on this. It makes him look stupid.

What we need are suggestions on what exactly law enforcement should do when they have a pre-crime suspect.

How far does free speech go .... or stop when it comes to threats of violence. I’ve seen threats of violence here on FR, and on Disquis, and on Quora, and on yahoo and in the letters to the editor and comments on stories in many media, both mainstream and not so mainstream.

Most of us don’t really mean what we say when we say: He should be shot ... or shoot me now ... etc.

So how do we clean up our slang so we can separate the stupid from the crazy ... and the crazy from the evil?

Well, since God is love, and says ‘love your neighbor as yourself’, then the only hate voices out there are those of the evil one, the devil! That pretty much sums up the problem with mass shootings: Men who listen to evil voices will act accordingly. The gun has no choice but to do as it was designed! That means the statement that ‘Guns do not kill people, people kill people with whatever weapon they can get, including guns!’ is the case! Be that called demonic possession, mental illness, or brainwashed...’a rose by any other name..... Gun Control will not stop murder, and people make lousy choices at times due to emotional distress. To remove all guns is to play into the Tyrant mind. Remember Hitler always!

>>I think the local Sheriff should resign along with the local FBI head along with Rick Scott, the principal and the entire Board of Education.<<

Thanks for bringing up the local authorities, especially the local sheriff. Why couldn't they incarcerate Cruz after so many alerts?

So Wray doesn’t work for Sessions, he works for the DNI, who at present, is Dan Coats.

Only the FBI's intelligence activities are overseen by the DNI. Besides that the FBI and Wray report to the AG.

Rick Scott, the Florida governor, has absolutely nothing to do with the massacre.

The BCSchoolBoard’s idiotic policies that protect criminal kid behavior, the local sheriff’s 39 opportunities to intervene and the FBI’s missed opportunity to intercept the psycho-Cruz are contributors to the event.

Ultimately, Cruz is responsible for all of his actions.

That’s how far they’d have to go because the hole they’re in is at least that deep.

I thought it was quite telling today that the FBI said they had ONE THOUSAND employees in Miami.

And not a single one thought this lead was enough to followup with.

Strzok is anti-terrorism, which this was. Miami FBI office 1000 people.

Apparently not enough priority, attention to saving innocent lives.

They had 1,000 potential agents in the immediate area to stop a high level potential terrorist attack on our kids.

They failed to assign a single agent (so they claim) to stop a killer. They were worthless.

I hope the friend of Cruz that tipped the FBI comes forward publicly and names the derelict FBI agent(s) that he contacted. This tipster was very worried and compiled the evidence and tracked down the proper authorities. He stuck his neck out and was answered with nonchalance and a complete dereliction of duty.

Epic failure by the FBI.
