Given that, there is no reason that these weapons should be broadly available to the civilian population

Spoken like a true tyrant.

Hmm. I thought it is not a particularly powerful gun. I thought wounding is more crippling to an enemy cadre than killing. I thought it is functionally quite like most hunting rifles, except for flexibility and looks. I thought killing deer for meat is a good purpose for such a gun. I thought 2A is about defense of our land (shooting enemies both foreign and domestic), not target shooting, hunting or collecting. I thought doctors are supposed to be smart.

I am a trauma surgeon, and I've seen what AR-15s can do. There's no reason for civilians to own them.

If a person is so arrogant as to think being a trauma surgeon qualifies him to make anti-constitutional decisions, or so pee-brained that he can't comprehend the anti-tyrannical importance of the 2nd Amendment, then he should just STFU and GTFO of our U.S.A.

Doctors kill many times more people than all AR-15s combined every single year.

This guy is giving Elmer Fudd a run for the money for most ignorant fool known to the public.

Listen up space cadet.

NONE OF THE GUN LAWS WE HAVE ON THE BOOKS TODAY, HAVE STOPPED CRIMINALS FROM VIOLATING THEM TO KILL.

Therefore more gun laws ARE NOT the answer.

We need to take a long hard look at our society, and figure out whey these people are killing. Only then, will these gun deaths go down.

Pull your head out of your ass and address the real problem here.

Dr. Ernest E. Moore:

“Ernest, you ignorant slut...”

How many outright lies and false and misleading innuendo did you cram into the short piece of excrement that you wrote?

First do no harm? - well, you certainly blew that one...

Please either educate yourself or keep your hate-filled pie-hole shut, for the good of humanity...

“An assault rifle is designed to deliver fatal wounds to multiple individuals within a short time period; it has no other purpose.”

Nonsesne. The purpose of the 5.56 was to severely wound the enemy, thinking a wounded combattent was more of a burdon than a dead one. Anyway, that’s what my dad said and he was 30 year Army.

It’s an emotional time when these mass shootings occur. Everyone has an opinion and this guy is entitled to his but he misses the point of the second amendment. But that’s for another day.

The solution to minimize these kinds of shootings is to eliminate gun free zones, allow law abiding people to carry weapons, protect schools with armed security and teachers, and keep mentally ill people from obtaining weapons, which is a slippery slope.

Even with those measures madmen are going to kill people. We have to do more to allow good people to take action to minimize loss of life.

First and with all sincerity, f**k you. Second, what are you going to do about it? Stack up on people's doors? I'd pay to see how that goes down.

When I hear the “no sporting use” argument, I instantly explain that the 2A isn’t about hunting or sporting. It’s about killing people. In particular, politicians that become tyrants and their standing armies and supporters. That shuts them up every time.

"Given that, there is no reason that these weapons should be broadly available to the civilian population. But, given that they are, let’s all understand how they are designed to kill people, not simply to shoot targets for fun. "

Actually, doctor, the .222 Remington round, the basis for the 5.56 NATO/.223 Remington round used in the AR was designed from beginning as a varmint hunting round.

It is effective shooting varmints of many different species.

If you know a way to design a rifle round and a rifle that's effective at shooting a herd of feral hogs, but is human-safe, please tell.

Also, medical errors kill about 1000 times as many Americans as rifles every year. Perhaps you should get your own house in order first?

Medical error—the third leading cause of death in the US

There's no reason for civilians to own them.

Given that governments are never tyrannical this is true. But if you can find an example of a tyrannical government anywhere it is false.

Hmmm. Where can I find a tyrannical government in history? Looking,... looking,... looking.

Nope, I guess they are always good and kind.

Just when it is revealed President Obama fraudulently authorized the state security apparatus to sabotage the administration of his duly elected political opponent, Doc suggests we disarm the American people? Not going to happen.

How about some real security in the schools?
