I am a trauma surgeon, and I've seen what AR-15s can do. There's no reason for civilians to own them.
An assault rifle is designed to deliver fatal wounds to multiple individuals within a short time period; it has no other purpose. The AR-15, the civilian version of the military assault rifle (M16 or M4), has become the most commonly used rifle in US mass shootings; the recent shootings in Parkland and Las Vegas, for instance, testify to the effectiveness of this weapons design. It was made for the military, to allow members of the armed forces to better dispatch multiple enemies in short order; in the hands of civilians, it not only clearly serves the same purpose for some individuals, but its unclear what other purpose it could serve, given how and why it was made.
Given that, there is no reason that these weapons should be broadly available to the civilian population. But, given that they are, lets all understand how they are designed to kill people, not simply to shoot targets for fun.
As a trauma surgeon for 40 years (and avid hunter for much longer), I am dismayed that we remain paralyzed over preventive measures. There have already been 18 school shootings in 2018, when one would be too many: This cannot remain a political issue when it is clearly an issue of common sense.

Hammers brutal to nail heads. Unless there’s no one attached to said hammer. In that case it’s a door stop. As usual, animate the tool and ignore the assclown. Let’s put the AR under arrest and try it. Fidiots.
Mistakes by doctors kill 150,000 - 200,000 people a year in America.
So shut up, Moore. We don’t want to live in a country where your precious government has a monopoly on firearms.
Fix your own profession.

Quite efficient at its intended purpose: Killing Tyrants.
But you expect a different result with guns because?
...I am dismayed that we remain paralyzed over preventive measures...
OK Doc. Why do we have cameras, security measures, and armed guards at banks and casinos? Why? Could it be that money is more important to protect with security than school kids?
By the way, have you ever treated anyone severely wounded by birdshot at close range? Or, wounded by 00 buckshot? Did you realize that a shotgun loaded with 7 rounds of 00 buckshot can empty 63 .30 caliber pellets in less than 4 seconds. That’s faster than a cycle rate of fire of the average submachinegun.
Let’s put shotguns on your ban list too.
How many healthy babies were aborted in America yesterday?
Spoken like a true tyrant.
NBC CNN ABC will trot out all their liberal talking heads for days to come.

Hmm. I thought it is not a particularly powerful gun. I thought wounding is more crippling to an enemy cadre than killing. I thought it is functionally quite like most hunting rifles, except for flexibility and looks. I thought killing deer for meat is a good purpose for such a gun. I thought 2A is about defense of our land (shooting enemies both foreign and domestic), not target shooting, hunting or collecting. I thought doctors are supposed to be smart.
Everything. Just propaganda. Lies about the gun. Lies about 18 school shootings. Hes no more than a hack.
So as an avid hunter

Hunting Avids.
Does that require a trip to Africa, a Safari, and huge guide and hunting fees?
This guy is worse than that dentist.
