I too remember boys bringing their rifles to school,
Some high schools in NYC of all places had rifle clubs. At my Dad's alma mater, Columbus HS in daBronx the basement area under gymnasium was a shooting range. Where I grew up in Rockland County, it wasn't unusual to drive along Rt 59 in Hillburn and see Black kids 14-15 years old walking along the road carrying rifles and in spite of race relations leaving much to be desired back then, no one gave it a second thought. Everyone knew they were just making their way into woods to hunt small game.

Columbus HS is my alma mater, class of 1979. The gun club was pretty much gone by then.

Sad how kids today will never have experienced our America. We grew up when things were still normal, most went to Christian churches, few divorces, basic morals in place for the most part,,, etc.

Now kids have all the extra harmful junk there is today - violent “games” and movies normalizing violence, hooked up to their phones all the time, cultural rot, many other things.

We were lucky the politicians hadn’t yet ruined our country when we were kids. They were on their way though.
