Teachers were warned in advance about the teenager who allegedly carried out a mass shooting at his former school in Florida, US media are reporting.
Nikolas Cruz has been charged with 17 counts of premeditated murder following the deadliest shooting at a US school since 2012.
A teacher said Mr Cruz was not allowed on campus with a backpack.
Seventeen people were killed in the attack and many more injured. Several people are in a critical condition. Mr Cruz, 19, apparently left the scene of the shooting by blending in with fleeing students, but was arrested several miles away and is now in police custody. What was the warning?
Maths teacher Jim Gard told the Miami Herald that school authorities had emailed teachers about Mr Cruz's behaviour.
"We were told last year that he wasn't allowed on campus with a backpack on him," Mr Gard told the Miami Herald. "There were problems with him last year threatening students, and I guess he was asked to leave campus."

I’m sure a government of enforced smiling on pain of prison (his mischief prior to this was minor) could put a better cap on things this way.

Besides being dull, they are highly, highly indoctrinated, from PBS through pubic school through teaching college through NEA. And they are mostly unaware of it. The ones that do know, keep quiet to keep their careers.

Then why was he allowed to be on campus at all? They should have kicked him out. And how is someone like this allowed into the ROTC program?!

I agree, that a sincere, thorough investigation and conversation about these types of incidents is obviously warranted.
But calm, deliberate investigations do not help the Democrats during election years!
I knew a mopey fellow in high school who could have gone this way but by the grace of God didn’t.
Bullying has long been an issue. Who addresses bullies and how? As we can see, the usual proud freeper story about teaching the bully a supposed lesson by knocking him out isn’t always followed by a now-compliant bully. The problem is sometimes shuffled around, not addressed.

If public school had it’s way, you would never know about him. They have the all-mighty attitude that they know best, and they can handle it in-house. That’s why they berate teachers that dare to talk about going to the police when they are assaulted in the classroom.
Blame public school. They created him, and failed to tell the rest of us about him.

The more you hear about the recently deceased and/or adoptive parents continues to dodge the fundamental question... was he born to an “alive” parent (at the time0 in the US, or somewhere else.
You beat me to the post of this very relevant question, was he a “DREAMER”? Brought to this country, through no fault of his own, at a young age. To coin an overused phrase.
Keep you eyes peeled for discussion of his background for the prior 17 or so of his 19 years on this planet. If no detailed is shared on this background, you can be assured that the odds of his sick ass being a Dreamer goes way up.
Just like the church shooter not long ago. I think it was that he was not allowed to own weapons but personnel in the military that should have put him in a database failed to do so. If so many of our people aren’t doing their jobs nothing is going to work no matter how many laws and regs are on the books.

In today’s world why are these schools not locked down? Our schools here are. No one in or out without authorization. You must be buzzed in. This individual was a known problem, was not attending, and was only restricted if he had a back pack? Administration dropped the ball big time here and people payed with their lives. Gross negligence.
Yes you may be able to possibly reduce the carnage. Maybe. I I just don’t think there is any iron clad way to prevent violence.
The facts that you report here are exactly the ones that jumped out at me.
The FBI was alerted by a video maker, who Cruz evidently “hired” to make his YouTube video. The video maker, Ben, was so concerned that he notified the FBI.
Agents came to see Ben, asked if he knew Cruz, Ben said no, and the agents left.
What the HE!! did the agents DO? Months ago, I would not
question them, but in light of current events, I ask again
WHAT DID THE FBI DO? DID THEY EVEN INTERVIEW CRUZ, and by doing that, at least cause him to worry a little?
The media cherry picks what we hear to support its agenda. Politically motivated self censorship is fake news. Don’t believe what you hear and think about what’s being withheld.
