Florida shooting: Teachers 'were warned' about Nikolas Cruz
BBC ^ | 2-15-18

Posted on 02/15/2018 5:34:38 AM PST by SJackson

Teachers were warned in advance about the teenager who allegedly carried out a mass shooting at his former school in Florida, US media are reporting.

Nikolas Cruz has been charged with 17 counts of premeditated murder following the deadliest shooting at a US school since 2012.

A teacher said Mr Cruz was not allowed on campus with a backpack.

Seventeen people were killed in the attack and many more injured. Several people are in a critical condition. Mr Cruz, 19, apparently left the scene of the shooting by blending in with fleeing students, but was arrested several miles away and is now in police custody. What was the warning?

Maths teacher Jim Gard told the Miami Herald that school authorities had emailed teachers about Mr Cruz's behaviour.

"We were told last year that he wasn't allowed on campus with a backpack on him," Mr Gard told the Miami Herald. "There were problems with him last year threatening students, and I guess he was asked to leave campus."

He should have never been allowed on the school grounds, period.

How do you prevent that? Considering a typical busy school with people coming and going, it's likely nobody knew he was even there until the shooting started......

Kids today don’t interact with people. They interact with their tech devices.

Then blame should be placed on the parents.

The upcoming generation will be even worse.

Babies interact with tablets strapped to their strollers and high chairs.

They are being ignored and their attention is controlled by the device.

If someone knew that this guy had a weapon, then right there, the guy should have been questioned.

More laws on the law abiding do not stop people willing to commit murder. Instead of trying to make this a collective responsibility, let empower educators and law enforcement to intervene BEFORE the cases turn violence. These things do not happen in a vacuum. There are more then enough warning signs but because our Lawyers are so trigger happy to sue people law enforcement and educators are prevented from acting BEFORE these rabid animals attack Yes, this is a societal problem but it not about guns. it about the absolute refusal to hold individuals accountable for then actions until it is far far far too late.

I just wonder what police and teachers are supposed to do. I’ve been thinking about this and comparing with domestic abuse, stalking, etc. It seems that if a potential victim needs help and asks for it, the response from autbhorities is that they can’t do anything unless/until “something happens”. All too often, that’s too late.

Precisely. Just what is gained by mainstreaming? It's literally FORCING a square peg in a round hole-damaging both. Psychiatry can't/won't help these kids, meds don't,and forcing them into situations that their nature can't deal with doesn't cure them by some magical exposure. Instead, they melt down or blow up, damaging everything.

Look, I pity the mentally ill. They didn't ask for their condition, BUT each of us-and the society we make up- has to decide whether the damage will be minimized and contained to THAT person, or allowed to spread. One car collision-one victim, or many. I see no value in letting one doomed individual ruin the lives of others.

A) How the hell did he get a gun?

That's the first thing out of a liberal gun-grabber's mouth when a weapon is abused. Don't fall for it.

“the shooter hit the fire alarm before he started shooting”

He created his own personal shooting gallery as kids poured into the halls from classrooms. Fish in a barrel, basically.

My prior post regarding teachers did also hit parents: “Teachers stand alone here, as do parents.”

I agree with you on the depersonalization occurring now from our devices. It is not good imo, was never before seen in humankind, and likely will lead to bad outcomes, personally and societally. We’re progressing from the boob tube/idiot box.

Welcome to the post Christian era folks.

We should not be surprised at the result of God being kicked out of schools in 1962 and the ensuing evil that has come to fill that void.

I want to know specifically (as do most here probably)...what did the FBI do once they left the first interview with the YouTube channel owner? Did they even interview Cruz about the comment he posted about being “a professional school shooter”?

I know it’s only the day after, but I hope these gaps in info are filled in.

The result of progressivism, that. We’ve been a great experiment with many poor, Godless ideas for decades. The fruits now are very bitter - divorce rates, illigetimacy rates, abortion rates, STD rates, illiteracy rates, untreated mental illness rates, suicide rates, military queering, gender confusion, mass shootings, etc.

Enough is enough.

He very well may have had an IEP because of his autism and other problems. That would mean a very long process mean to safeguards his rights under federal and state education laws.
If he did and still was expelled that shows just how much of threat the school believed him to be.

I would like to see a layout of the school. Because I am wondering how he was able to wonder freely through the halls. Are people allowed to just freely come and go on the campus? If not, how is the movement of non-students controlled?

Google it. The guy who reported to the FBI was just reinterviewed today.

Amazingly, The media says the FBI couldn’t track him down!

“I will be a professional school shooter” was NOT signed Jack the Ripper.

It was signed Nicolas Cruz!!

They can electronically trace everything.
They can locate every Nicolas Cruz in the USA within minutes.

Too busy framing Donald Trump and family, to bother.

Articles note that he wasn't on the authorities radar screen. My guess, the mandatory reporters he encountered every day failed in their job. Fights, aka assaults, but no police involvement. A warning to teachers, but none to authorities. We have laws pertaining to those who are a threat to self or others. They end up committed to institutions. And though they may well be let out before they're no longer a threat, we have laws making it a felony to possess or attempt to purchase a firearm. Articles note he purchased the AR15 legally, that's on the authorities who knew he was a threat, but didn't take the steps required by law.

Liberal gun-grabbers keep telling us that we need "sensible restrictions on gun ownership." We already have such sensible restrictions in place as Federal Law: if you're a convicted felon or have been adjudicated as mentally unfit, you cannot legally purchase a firearm. If liberals were sincere in their desire to curb mass shootings, they would focus on enforcing these existing laws and creating a system to flag the mentally ill. Instead, they prefer empty posturing and rhetoric on these issues while finding ways to disarm the rest of us who are law abiding and of sound mind.

He was adopted.

Father died some time ago-—but not a long time

Mother passed away 11-1-17 due to the flu.

He was over 18 & legally bought the gun.

He had been taken in by another family..

Was working & had been a good employee.....at least by today’s standards.

UNTIL the country & Congress mandates that mentally disturbed people are identified-—thank you ACLU-—and either such information placed in EVERY data base in the country, or they are placed in facilities-—thanks AGAIN ACLU for closing such places-—we will have this tug of war over owning a gun.

Millions of Americans won guns that have never harmed anyone. None of us deserve to be punished for the actions of crazies or marginal crazies. I include Pelosi in the crazy class. Keep in mind that, IIRC, there are only 7 CCW permits in San Fran & Di Fi & her bodyguards have 6 of them.
