Actually, indeed, ethnic Catholics who bought older homes, often had the priests in to bless it and pray that any evil lingering there would be driven out.

I've never heard any true Catholic exorcising their home. None.

I just wrote that it wasn’t an exorcism. But it was a wish, a hope and a prayer that evil would cease to exist within the house if it was present. I am writing about the Irish Catholics of New York City of my youth which is why I used the word “ethnic.” I doubt Catholic intellectuals of the “Brideshead Revisited” type or the Protestant-style American Catholics of today know what I’m talking about or indulge in such thought.

Many Catholics have had their homes blessed by a priest. Just because you haven’t heard of it, doesn’t mean that it doesn’t happen.
