I used to have a Birthday Card. It asked how old are you. When you opened it up a recording came on that played theme from Law and Order, and said “you have the right to remain silent”.
The longer I live, the more I realize that remaining silent is a good idea should the Law come a knocking.
I have had a position where I read dozens, even hundreds of police reports (unredacted) every week. Absolutely amazing the sheer number of idiots who talk to the cops.
Unless you are the victim or a witness, say NOTHING without a lawyer present. Nothing. If you do, and I mean anything beyond name and address and provide ID, you are an idiot and deserve whatever happens to you. 5 out of 6 tweakers (meth users) would self-implicate; not surprising but also ostensibly intelligent people, over and over again they think they can explain their way out of it (be it a traffic ticket or a rape investigation). Morons.
