Team USA figure skater Adam Rippon reportedly turned down an offer to take part in a conversation with Vice President Mike Pence just hours after the openly gay athlete slammed Pence's anti-LGBT policies and President Trump's comments about African countries.
Rippon had lambasted the vice president's highly visible role at the upcoming Winter Olympic Games in an interview with USA Today published last month. Pence has been considered an opponent of the LGBT community after he signed the Religious Freedom Restoration Act as governor of Indiana.
When asked about Pence's role in leading the U.S. delegation to the opening ceremonies, Rippon responded to the outlet, "You mean Mike Pence, the same Mike Pence that funded gay conversion therapy? I'm not buying it."
"I don't think he has a real concept of reality," Rippon told the newspaper. "To stand by some of the things that Donald Trump has said and for Mike Pence to say he's a devout Christian man is completely contradictory. If he's OK with what's being said about people and Americans and foreigners and about different countries that are being called 'sh*tholes,' I think he should really go to church."
Rippon's initial criticism of Pence drew a sharp rebuke from his press secretary, Alyssa Farah, who called some of his statements "totally false" and that they had "no basis in fact."

I don't want to be declared a "Putin Lover" which is so common in this forum, but the Russian figure-skaters are models of discipline, public dignity and professionalism. The Japanese are very good also. Both understand they represent their nations, while Americans allow those few like Rippon to come to the front, who think its all about themselves.
You don't have to worry about Rippon. He's not going anywhere. Nathan Chen is the American with the best chance in the Men's category, while the Russian women will dominate the Women's events.
Yeah, keep it to yourselves folks.

Remember the diver Greg Louganis? Thirty years ago in the Korea-hosted Olympics he banged his head open, potentially spreading HIV to anyone coming into contact with the blood - e.g. doctors, other swimmers, anyone in contact with the pool.
I suppose that's better than to engage with someone that's acted hateful, but I prefer Trump's approach of insulting the guy!

Last great woman Olympic skater was Oksana Baiul. Don’t watch men’s skating, prancing about is best left to the ladies.
