WASHINGTONThe U.S. Department of Defense is planning a military parade at the request of President Donald Trump, White House and Pentagon officials said Tuesday.
After observing the Bastille Day celebrations in Paris last year, Mr. Trump said he wanted to hold a similar parade on Pennsylvania Avenue in Washington, perhaps to celebrate the Fourth of July.
The French parade last July, which also marked the centennial of the U.S. entry into World War I, featured more than 6,000 service members, tanks and planes overhead in an elaborate display of military might. French President Emmanuel Macron invited Mr. Trump to watch the parade beside him.
It was one of the greatest parades Ive ever seen, Mr. Trump said in September at the Lotte New York Palace hotel. And to a large extent, because of what I witnessed, we may do something like that on July Fourth in Washington, down Pennsylvania Avenue. I dont know. Were going to have to try and top it.
The Washington Post first reported the Mr. Trump had asked the Pentagon to arrange an event in the Bastille Day style. Pentagon officials said late Tuesday that plans were in their infancy.
On Wednesday, the chairman of the Pentagons Joint Chiefs of Staff, Gen. Joe Dunford, acknowledged the parade plans while traveling in Asia. Im aware of the presidents request and we are in the initial planning stages to meet the presidents direction, he said during a stop in Bangkok.
The White House said the decision demonstrated Mr. Trumps support for the military.

Then don’t call yourself an expat.
“Really? Service to our country should be the very first stop in adulthood for every able-bodied American man, particularly in wartime.”
—
In war time yes,but why in peacetime?
There are many other routes to adulthood.
Some people just aren’t suited for military service and the military is better off without them.
.
Like the President, for example.
She is a liberal so you’d like her I am sure.
Although I am not against stuff like personel carriers like stryker vehicles, but to haul abrams and other tracked to there would be foolish.
Have you any idea what the rate is per hour for lowboys these days? And it isnt the military who haul those in this country, its private trucking firms or the RR.
GTH!!! I have forgotten more than you will ever know. Georgie was Numero Uno in Operation Torch. He was the acknowledged expert at the time. Go study your history and I mean MILITARY HISTORY, not the commie funny books.
I suggest you cast a glance at THE HARMON MEMORIAL LECTURES IN MILITARY HISTORY. Page 210, 211, 212 will surprise you and back up my assertions. I imagine you didn’t know Patton got his pilot’s license either. He did so in order to understand the “developing maturity of air power.”
While Marines assisted in training for the invasion of Sicily in advising Eisenhower, and subsequent landings in the ETO, operation Torch was our first entry into the European war Nov.8, 1942. The Marines were then busy in the Pacific.
Yup. ALL the military schools.
My apologies to DoodleDawg. But none to you Sir. You are incapable of reasoned debate, so instead decide to impugn good conservatives with spurious accusations. If I didn’t know better, i’d say you’re a troll.
I want reasoned debate. But some of the hard heads are impossible to debate.
You too need to study Patton.
We are always at war: as long as we are who we are, we are under attack.
I reiterate: it is ever able-bodied man's duty.
Want to hear something really strange? “conservatives” who let other people take the hardships and risks for our freedom. And then complain when we might have a military parade.
.........................................................
Right ON!!!
All good training for deployments across the country, as we would during war.
I think you missed the parade that was held in Washington at the end of the Gulf War: we had M-1 tanks, M109A3 Howitzers, Bradleys and a host of other vehicle - plus aircraft flyovers. Easy-peasey.
I’m an expat from my home state of Florida. It’s sort of a play on words and concepts. I’ll engage in whatever wordplay I see fit, particularly when formulating a nickname/username.
By the way, who died and made you the username police? Seriously, lighten up, Francis.
Dang, D’Dawg, I think you’ve found an admirer. A really creative one with an extremely witty turn of phrase.
Call me names all you please. Doesn’t faze me one bit. Your image of our military “prancing around” shows the immaturity of your so-called cerveau. It also shows you’ve obviously been brain washed to never show our military in a good light.
Very ell Said!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I agree with you two. Being a Vietnam Vet ... I would like to have the welcome home parade that we never had. I bel8eve it will go a long way to helping rebuild the American morale that has been beat down by liberals and fake conservatives for so long .... AND it will tweak the noses of the stinking liberal ... I for one will enjoy seeing their heads explode. That one thing would make the parade worthwhile. As far as the military personal wanting the time off instead of the parade. Well each to their ... but I know that I personally March in the various veteran thanking parades in my area ... and I love it
Yup! Spectacular. Tin Can sailors have a lot to be proud of!
So in other words, our fighting men arent adequately prepared unless they participate in a parade first?
................................................................
Where did I ever make such a statement? Your problem is you are blind to the positive aspects of honoring our military. You’ve been listening too much to the “other side of the aisle.”
