Because the United States would have immediately outlawed slavery if the South had remained in the Union?

The way I read history, Lincoln promised them that he would protect slavery if they would just stay in the union, so I don't think slavery was the issue over which they were fighting.

Since they are going around tearing down monuments, I am surprised that this statue still stands. Perhaps they are avoiding “grave desecration” charges.

During the 2004 party conventions on ABC the anchors were thrilled by the speeches of two people Obama and Schwarzenegger and commented on how it was unfortunate that neither was eligible to be President due to they’re being foreign born
