Since we built our house, we know there is NO money behind the walls. LOL
Agree. Perhaps a bookie. ;-)
I’m so glad you know your background. Mine was pretty much kept secret. I post my great grandmother but I actually somewhat remember visiting my grand-fathers mother in the hills of Kentucky a she was certainly Indian. I was told to be very quiet that she was very old. She was probably in her 90’s. It wasn’t talked about to us.
I’m not watching the Olympics either. Husband gives me up-dates and then I Google.
Nice. What tribe, State?
"HOLY COW!" You just witnessed a historic triple axel from Mirai Nagasu. #WinterOlympics https://t.co/NsNuy9F46h pic.twitter.com/jCMTb4LtXv— NBC Olympics (@NBCOlympics) February 12, 2018
My mother’s background is harder to unravel. Her father moved the family to California from Kansas City when my mom was a baby and never had anything to do with his family again. She actually went there when she was eighteen to visit her mother’s family, and looked up her dad’s parents. She went to visit them, she said they were very happy to see her and they were very nice. My grandfather was a Jew, and part English according to my mom, but I suspect he was trying to hide it. He converted to Seventh Day Adventist for one thing. When I was older, I had bought a star of David necklace, and when my mom saw me wearing it, told me I shouldn’t wear it in public because people don’t like Jews.
So all I know is that the family had immigrated from England and initially moved to Louisville Kentucky and raised race horses, and somehow my great grandparents ended up in Kansas City.
? Kentucky hills. I was never told anything. I now see it had something to do with my family never seeing our fathers mom and dad while growing up. It was something to do with my moms background.
My dads family is from West Virginia and I believe from Scotland. Mothers family is from the hills of Kentucky. We could be related.
I went on Ancestry.com years ago, and happened to find a cousin of my grandmother’s. His family had moved to Arkansas also and settled north of her family, but every summer they would visit my great grandfather’s farm. He had done a lot of research and sent me family history and property ownership going back to the 1700’s. I made copies for my dad, aunt and their cousin. They were SO happy! My dad remembered the family that would bring all the kids and visit.
That is a really cool pic, of your great grandmother, NIKK.
She was beautiful.
What part of the country was that?
Could be. I went to a friend’s dad funeral a year ago, and met a person with the same last name. We got to talking, and we are from the same family as my dad’s father. He knew about the revolutionary war hero and the trail of tears and everything. Small world!
Thanks for posting that triple axel link, NIKK.
We’ve watched the Winter Oympics, almost every time, for years. Not watching this year.
I appreciate the highlights being posted :)
I love watching ice skating but I haven’t watched this year as I don’t want to see the North Korean lovefest.
Yep. My sentiments, exactly.
You are really making me question my background. Maybe I wasn’t staying in Kentucky when I visited my great grandmother on my grand-fathers side. (Not the one in the picture-that’s on my grand-mothers side) Maybe some family were in West Virginia or Tenn.?
Wonderful you have that pix!
Been putting off my run back home as the driveway is slick ice. Wont improve as temps now in mid 20s n high today only 31. Will do new thread at Library WiFi
will be passing on Fat Tuesday celebration tomorrow perhaps. Still havent positively decided. In this weather Im content to stay in n warm
My father apparently made sure we stayed some distance from the rest of the family. I was the only one that visited my dads sister in the summer for a week and that’s when I’d see my grandfather. He somewhat ignored me.(actually did ignore) Now I think about it..I’m the only blonde in my family. My brothers and sisters have dark hair.
