HONOLULU (AP) A former Hawaii state worker who sent a false missile alert last month said Friday that hes devastated for causing panic but was 100 percent sure at the time that the attack was real.
The man in his 50s spoke to reporters on the condition that he not be identified because he fears for his safety after receiving threats.
He says the on-duty call he received on Jan. 13 didnt sound like a drill. However, state officials say other workers clearly heard the word exercise repeated several times.
He said it felt like he had been hit with a body blow when he realized it was just a drill and he has had difficulty eating and sleeping since.
The Hawaii Emergency Management Agency fired him.
The mans superiors said they knew for years that he had problems performing his job.

Yup.
So this story has moved from “It was an accident” to “I made a mistake.” When will he finally admit that he did it deliberately?
Sorry but from all indications he is incompetent and a serial dumbass.
Yeah, devastated that his nefarious ploy to start a war didn’t work.
Poor guy.
Let's all hear about our "feelings" about some nincompoop who should have never been in that position in the first place.
I thought this was supposed to have been a mistake, hit the wrong button. Now the ner-du-ell has been a low performer all along?
“His supervisors counseled him but kept him for a decade in a position that had to be renewed each year.”
THERE IT IS. The bosses reason why it wasnt the bosses fault.
Well, the good news is that they found out an actual alert works. ;-)
Well then they weren't really superiors then, now were they?
They seem like incompetent supervisors that should be removed from their positions as well.
Did he bother to explain why he wouldn’t talk to the FCC then?
HA HA
What the hell?
article doesn’t mention something I read elsewhere, that this man allegedly didn’t cooperate with investigators
Yes, interesting to see the story change. I have seen reports, that say it is impossible to do this by mistake. Too many different, deliberate actions have to be taken.
Having worked many exercises in the USAF, if one is not sure if its a drill, he should do the intelligent thing. Ask someone. They would surely tell him.
More likely that he [state employee] was devastated that he lost his job when his adolescent stunt didn’t go over when the LSM/Dem cabal has been assuring useful idiots that “everything can be blamed on Trump and/or his policies” without recriminations.
Affirmative Action hire? Maybe?
yep

That tells me that some others should be looking for new jobs.
