Increases to the gasoline tax only hurt the low income worker. Many of them can only afford high gas mileage cars with high repair bills and long commutes from rural areas that have low housing costs. Higher taxes only add to the cost of transportation.
Burden importers for a ttrilllion dollar union bailout... ridiculous. We didn’t do any of that withe the Obamas shovel ready jobs program either. Suddenly republicans want to tax and spend just like democrats and everyone suddenly loves tax and spend.. wow. No conservative principles present.

Rep. Bill Shyster.
I left California nearly 3 years ago. Seldom does a day go by that I’m not in awe of the difference.
Shortly after I got here I expressed astonishment at one facet of life here vs life there and was told “Welcome to America.”
My son still comments that drivers are polite to each other here.
Wrong, they should cut the tax on diesel by 75% and gasoline by 25%.
Of all the stupid-ass political arguments I hate, I think I hate the You can afford this... why this is only $XX a week... thats less than you spend on a cup of coffee! the most.
Ok, maybe I hate If it saves just one life... more.
Oh, and Its for the children.... But this one is certainly Top Three of the stupid-ass political arguments I hate.
But when you think about it, this package costs less that one-and-a-half tines as much as George Bushs War in Iraq!
OK. Maybe Top Four...
A dumb idea. Fundamental problem with a gas tax is the mpg for vehicles continues to increase. So, youre continuously getting less money per mile driven. And how do you assess a gas tax on a Tesla?
Since the politicians have fallen in love with tolls, this is a double whammy.
Does the moron realize that all that does is increase the price of goods (think food ) that needs to be transported.
You want money to build roads etc ? Cut spending elsewhere .
If President Trump guts the government of useless parasitic bureaucrats the savings would be more than enough for this project.
Thats only a little over a thousand dollars each over the life of the program!
A thousand dolllars! Thats just crumbs...
(Damn... Im Nancy Pelosi)
Stupid, Keynesian moron, yeah, bro, that will help Pubbies in 2018...
Cut beauracracies, cut waste, maybe let a couple staffers go and do the work you were called there to do!!!
Our gas should be $1.50 or less always and forever.
We have a toll bridge here, and it costs $1.50 to cross it. This past year we drove through Colorado and then later on, down to Destin/FWB Florida. We knew we passed through a toll area in Florida but had no idea we had in Colorado (maybe I was asleep when hubby drove through there) but got ginormous bills compared to our little toll bridge. $14 and I think $28. Geez, no wonder politicians like those things.
The nice thing about this tax is that after ten years, when the program is over, it will go away, and the tax on gasoline will go down again.
BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAA!
I crack myself up sometimes!
I don't trust ANYBODY in government with my taxes.
I have an idea for infrastructure and it's called the WALL!!!. There is plenty of money spent on absolute garbage to shift it to useful purposes and Constitutional purposes.
Why don’t they ever cut spending? Or even consider it!
Always trying to take my damn cup of coffee.
Maybe stop providing coffee at all federal offices at least?
Sounds like NYC tolls; when tolls reach a certain point you basically have to live as though that bridge/tunnel doesn’t exist - and if there aren’t more affordable alternatives, then live as though everything on the other end of those bridges and tunnels doesn’t exist. I live a dozen miles west of NYC, and I haven’t been in that city in years.
A real problem in the NYC metro area is that prices are based on an economic reality that died decades ago; wages for most no longer support the cost of living here (see NJ still leading the country in foreclosures), and a mass exodus of American taxpayers has been underway for years. 1%ers can deal with these high costs, and basically see them as a filter to get us unwashed hordes off their roadways - and with the congestion pricing being discussed (again) for NYC, they’ll be the only ones driving in the lower portion of Manhattan. It is similar to how the high property taxes in NJ, reviled by most, are seen as 1%ers as a means to keep their towns exclusive (and white). That is their goal; they just can’t force us to accept it. As we pack up and leave, they just import foreigners to make their morning coffee, work in their favorite restaurants, clean their cars, cut their lawns, etc..
What they need to instead do is require gasoline tax use used for roads ONLY. Stop diverting it to non-highway projects.
Remember all those shovel ready jobs paid for with all of that stimulus money that was supposed to fix infrastructure? I’d still like to know where all that money went.
Schusters father served in Congress on the transportation committee for years and mulcted millions upon millions for Pennsylvania. The state still has the worst roads I have ever driven upon.
