It looks like Christopher Columbus can stay put. For now.
Earlier this month, New York Citys Advisory Commission on City Art, Monuments, and Markers announced that the 76-foot monument to Columbus can remain at the traffic circle at the southwest corner of Central Park, despite protests from groups claiming to speak for Native Americans.
For both Italian Americans, who view Columbus as a symbol of ethnic pride, and Latinos, whose culture was born from the Spanish colonization ushered in by Columbus, the decision comes as a relief. But the commissions report is not all good news. A close review reveals the precarious place of Columbus, and other historic figures, in todays culture of grievance.
Recall that New York mayor Bill de Blasio announced the commissions formation amid controversy over Confederate war memorials in Charlottesville, Va., and elsewhere. Never mind that New York isnt exactly known for its monuments to southern generals. Fear of missing out on the icon-smashing bandwagon led de Blasio to set his sights on other symbols of hate, targeting Columbus, in particular, for immediate attention.
But this didnt stop de Blasio from flaunting his Italian heritage by marching in the annual Columbus Day parade in October. Apparently, de Blasio, who was born Warren Wilhelm Jr. but now uses his mothers maiden name (for obvious political reasons), wants to have things both ways: to cultivate the good will of Italian Americans while simultaneously stoking his radical-progressive base.

And as for me I went financially broke for the Lord’s sake. Twice.
And am walking a tightrope now into an unknown future. Unknown to me. It is very known to God. Right now I am the only white soul brother in a black church (of orthodox faith).
So was God “important” to you? He’s “essential” to me!
By their fruits shall they be known.
And oh, you can’t be primarily “against abortion” for that’s already to concede a lost cause. And not even “pro life” solely for the baby. It has to embrace the mother and prospectively the entire family. Planned Parenthood isn’t so much a bad idea as it is a lie. A lie like calling homosexuality gay. God planned parenthood and God can save parenthood. How broad and tall and wide and deep is your vision? That’s what I am talking about.
It’s amazing how those who get this lobotomy are often both completely lacking balls and yet certifiably nuts.
