Compare last night’s Jan, 30, 2018 first SOTU Address by president Trump with President Reagan’s first SOTU Address 36 years ago on Jan 26, 1982.

Lots of similarities.

——Some excerpts from Trump’s speech: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ATFwMO9CebA

“Less than one year has passed since I first stood at this podium, in this majestic chamber, to speak on behalf of the American people and to address their concerns, their hopes, and their dreams. That night, our new administration had already taken very swift action. A new tide of optimism was already sweeping across our land. Each day since, we have gone forward with a clear vision and a righteous mission, to make America great again for all Americans.

“the state of our union is strong, because our people are strong

“After years and years of wages stagnation, we are finally seeing rising wages. Unemployment claims have hit a 45-year low. And something I am very proud of: African-American unemployment stands at the lowest rate ever recorded. And Hispanic-American unemployment has also reached the lowest levels in history. Small business confidence is at an all-time high. The stock market has smashed one record after another, gaining a trillion dollars and more in value in just this short period of time.

“The great news for Americans: 401(k) retirement, pension, and college savings accounts have gone through the roof. And just as I promised the American people from this podium 11 months ago, we enacted the biggest tax cuts and reforms in American history.

“In America, we know that faith and family, not government and bureaucracy, are the center of American life. The motto is, in God we trust.

“In our drive to make Washington accountable, we have eliminated more regulations in our first year than any administration in the history of our country.

“As we rebuild America’s strength and confidence at home, we are also restoring our strength and standing abroad.

“It was that same yearning for freedom that nearly 250 years ago gave birth to a special place called America. It was a small cluster of colonies caught between a great ocean and a vast wilderness. But it was home to an incredible people with a revolutionary idea: that they could rule themselves. That they could chart their own destiny. And that, together, they could light up the world.

“[O]ur nation will forever be safe and strong and proud and mighty and free. Thank you, and God bless America.”

——Some excerpts from Reagan’s speech (interesting to see almost no women in Congress and the overall demeanor seemed much calmer and dignified - “It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, it was the season of Light, it was the season of Darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair, we had everything before us, we had nothing before us, we were all going direct to Heaven, we were all going direct the other way - in short, the period was [] like the present period...”): https://www.c-span.org/video/?88293-1/1982-state-union-address

“I proposed a new spirit of partnership between this Congress and this administration and between Washington and our State and local governments. In forging this new partnership for America, we could achieve the oldest hopes of our Republic—prosperity for our nation, peace for the world, and the blessings of individual liberty for our children and, someday, for all of humanity.

“To understand the state of the Union, we must look not only at where we are and where we’re going but where we’ve been. The situation at this time last year was truly ominous.

“Together, we not only cut the increase in government spending nearly in half, we brought about the largest tax reductions and the most sweeping changes in our tax structure since the beginning of this century.

“Together, we have cut the growth of new Federal regulations nearly in half. In 1981 there were 23,000 fewer pages in the Federal Register, which lists new regulations, than there were in 1980.

“Together we have made a New Beginning, but we have only begun.

“[W]e’ve moved to reconstruct our national defenses. We intend to keep the peace. We will also keep our freedom.

“Let us so conduct ourselves that two centuries from now, another Congress and another President, meeting in this Chamber as we are meeting, will speak of us with pride, saying that we met the test and preserved for them in their day the sacred flame of liberty—this last, best hope of man on Earth. God bless you, and thank you.”

Great post. Trump is in great company. Trump’s speech was approved by 75% — an enormous margin ( when you see the hatred and lies of MSM) . I would hold the “memo” showing treason until the last minute so as not to step on the glow of this great SOTU. Go TRUMP!! AWESOME.
Please note that I am anti amnesty but if it is done properl, it will stop this insane illegal alien infestation in the future and I will suck it up butter cup. But if the Dems blow this offer then no amnesty.
Let me warn again that Schumer confirmed on Jan 23 that he has a deal with McConnell to just vote on DACA — nothing attached. Schumer is saying McConnell will “break his word” . McConnell hates Trump and does NOT want the WALL. I am convinced that deal was made because it has never been denied by McConnell. It was announced immediately after the deal to reopen the government was made by Schumer and never denied. If that happens — all hell breaks loose politically. The “deal” was — If no immigration deal by Feb 8 — the clean daca vote will be ordered by McDonnell”. watch very closely. McConnell would gut us any way he could in a New York minute.
