My grandfather also came over with $20 in his pocket, I have a copy of the manifest from his ship, the U.S.S. Berlin out of Naples, and the $20 was from his father Giuseppe. Here he is older, still a shoemaker, he's on the far left..

My grandmother came from Naples to NY she lived in Sicily. My grandfather from Messina, IIRC I have the manifests from the ellis island website 1911.

My grandfather who came from Palermo, had a shoe shop in upper Manhattan (Anselmo’s Shoe Repair), my mother used to go there on the weekends to straighten out because he was so busy during the week, no time for that......He use to fix Kim Novak’s shoes, her maid would bring them over to the shop.....I still have his shoe stretcher, works great!!!
