Washington (CNN)President Donald Trump is proposing giving 1.8 million young undocumented immigrants a pathway to citizenship in exchange for $25 billion for his long-promised wall and a host of other strict immigration cuts, according to a framework proposed Thursday. The outlines of the deal were described by a White House official for staff on Capitol Hill that CNN was given access to on Thursday afternoon. In what the White House official called a "dramatic concession," Trump would accept a path to citizenship for not just those originally eligible for DACA but for a broader population, adding up to 1.8 million people, the official said.

Read the White House Memo in post #277. The section entitled “DACA Legalization” uses the 1.8 million figure for a path to citizenship.
Yes, Nancy Pelosi was just quoted on Fox complaining that the President’s proposal would cut legal immigration in half, and change the makeup of the immigrants (merit based). Where are the Dems going to get replacement voters ?
Yes
I have no idea what DU is or what you’re talking about.
Well yeah. This thread is about the “new” Trump proposal.
My point: Trump never mentioned giving 1.8 million illegals amnesty on the campaign
trail. He have never mentioned those kind of numbers in speeches.
Giving 700,000 DACA’s is bad enough.
Giving 2 million amnesty is insane.
This is a brand new proposal.
>>Lets see how this plays out. I have a feeling this was meant to put Schumer in a very difficult position with his continued opposition to the wall.<<
Oh, it puts Schumer in a difficult position all right. He’s got Dreamers picketing his house now and if he comes out against this, they’ll go ballistic.
What people forget is that it’s the Dem legislators that want open borders, not the immigrant population here legally. That puts Schumer on the wrong side and Trump on the right side with the immigrant population.
The Dems are going to fight this tooth and nail and end up looking like they’re not willing to help the Dreamers while Trump will look like he’s serious about getting them legal status. He really put Schumer in a box on this one because Schumer is going to have to argue against the wall, and against dropping chain migration and the lottery, but most people are on Trump’s side on all those points.
All Trump will have “given up” is something that 80% of us are already willing to concede...people brought here as children shouldn’t be punished for the behavior of their parents. This could get 60 votes in the Senate despite Schumer but if it doesn’t, Trump will be all over McConnell telling him to drop the damned filibuster rule and start legislating.
Without looking Im guessing many here are excusing it as lies by MSM or Oort Cloud level chess.....as in way way out there beyond the conception of mere mortals
Im not shocked

Celebrated here by some folks loosening their collars with a wet finger in the air
I dont like it
>>1.8 million new DemocRat voters. Enough to swing many districts from red to blue.<<
Working HIspanics are not automatic votes for Dems. And if Trump is the reason they obtain legal status, whatever the form it eventually takes, they’re more likely to vote GOP than Dem in the future. After all, Obama promised to help them and then didn’t, and he had a veto proof majority in the Senate after making that promise. It’s not likely they’ll forget that stab in the back.
What difference does it make? No one really knows how many are here. Trump has said he wants a path to citizenship. Hope they all decide to vote for Trump.
It’s over. Dems reject it.
Haha

That should be the way it works but it has been pointed out that Reagan gave amnesty but Bush 41 did not benefit from that deal when he ran 2 times in ‘88 and ‘92.
CNN??
Shirley you jest...
Until I hear it from Trump himself,
THREAD REJECTED! unread...
My ancestors came here in the 1600s as planters from England
and if you do not get the joke I will not explain it to you
It is easy to pen this after the Dems have refused the deal.
I live in a part of this once great Nation where still a mans word is is vow and it means something. It is too bad that others do not follow this simple old tried and true method where a hand shake and your word, YOUR PROMISE, is all that is needed. OUR President made a promise. NO AMNESTY.. That was his word to me. I expect him to stand by it.
And furthermore asshole, I am not stupid
I suspect massive fraud is already being committed by DACA.
Interesting question. I would say that it was a different time and place. Today we supposedly have law and an establishment to protect our national interest. In the 1500’s most of the world was subject to “conquerors”. My ancestors at that time were subjected to invasions from various hordes from Southern Europe. If you want into the US today do it legally.
Just twisting Schumer’s nipples - he also asks for $25 billion for the wall vs. the original $18 billion. He just put Schumer in an even harder place.
The Democrats cannot afford to have the border controlled.
This 1.8 million will not give the Democrats a permanent majority. It might be a temporary boost, but they know a constant stream of uneducated and unskilled migrants is the only thing that will keep them in power.
The wall prevents that and dries up the stream.
Trump knows this. That is why he made the offer. He knows that the Democrats cannot accept this deal......and the Democrats cannot say why they cannot accept this deal.
Trump wins.
