It might not be hard to believe.
But you might consider that the US still has enemies. An enemy interested in creating civil unrest might also be interested in putting forth such a narrative. What happens when a populace believes that it has been betrayed by its own leaders, and the the supposed swamp cleaning never happens.
That is why facts matter here.
