Jews reportedly barred from UK campus lecture charging Israel with ‘reproductive sabotage’ of Palestinians
A British university is responding to complaints that Jews were barred from a lecture alleging Israel was intentionally undermining the fertility of Palestinians.
A spokesman for the University of Warwick, located 90 miles northwest of London, said Wednesday’s 17 event “was organized by group of researchers and students” and “was not organized by the University.”
The university has received a complaint that at least three Jews were barred from the event, which was advertised as open to the public, the spokesman also said.
“A complaint has been made to the University about this event which we are now considering and which we will respond to,” university spokesman Tom Frew told JTA.
David Collier, a journalist and blogger on anti-Semitism, said he and two other Jews, Mandy Blumenthal and Yochy Davis, were stopped at the entrance to the lecture room by Lisa Tilley, a member of the faculty at Warwick’s School of Politics and International Relations. He wrote that she asked to see their identity cards and refused to admit them into the room after inspecting them.
Contacted by JTA, Tilley said the event in question was attended by “many members of the Jewish community at Warwick.”
According to the Warwick University’s Jewish/Israeli society, the event had a turnout of 10 to 15 people, including two members of that society, and did not feature anti-Semitic rhetoric, the Jewish Chronicle reported. Tilley wrote in an email to JTA: “I did not personally ask Mr. Collier or his companions for ID.”
“All allegations of anti-Semitism in relation to me, the speaker, or anyone present are completely false.” She added Collier’s “physical and verbal intimidation tactics were very much on display on Wednesday.”
The event was a lecture by Sigrid Vertommen, a researcher from the Department of Global Health and Social Medicine at King’s College London. The invitation to the event said that Israel’s policy of subsidizing multiple fertilization procedures for its citizens is “primarily aimed to serve the reproductive rights of its Jewish population at the expense of the indigenous Palestinian population.”
Israel has 1.2 million Arab Palestinian citizens, who are entitled to the same medical benefits as all other citizens.
“Rather than understanding Israel’s fertility policies in terms of rights, choice, peace and reconciliation,” the invitation to the event read, “it will propose a reproductive sabotage framework.”
Vertommen did not reply to a JTA request for comment.
Shimon Samuels, the director of international relations for the Simon Wiesenthal Center, said the charge that Israel would “sabotage” Palestinians’ fertility recalled the “blood libel” historically leveled at Jews. The charge betrayed an “anti-Semitic bias” that contributes to making the University of Warwick “the leading university in the United Kingdom in terms of denying Israel’s right to exist,” he told JTA.
In 2013, the university paid $1,380 to an Israeli student, Smadar Bakovic, who complained that a supervisor assigned to her had a bias against her because of her country of birth.
Frew, the university spokesman, did not reply to JTA’s request for a reaction on criticism against the university for hosting Vertommen’s lecture.

Reproductive sabotage. AKA health insurance for Israeli Arabs.
This is even crazier than, like, everything else this morning.
This happened in the UK, so I do not know their laws regarding this sort of thing, but I hope action can be taken to put a halt to such discrimination in their country.
Here in the United States it is illegal for a university which receives any sort of tax-payer funding to permit such discrimination on its campus, no matter who organized the event. Furthermore, since the 14th amendment has to date been interpreted so as to apply to private entities which are open to the public, it is probably illegal for private universities to engage in such discrimination as well.
I’m not saying such a thing cannot happen here, but at least the aggrieved parties would have the law on their side when seeking an end to such behavior.
I wonder how they would accomplish that. I sincerely doubt they're sterilizing "palestinians" against their will, or we probably would have heard about it before now.

Ha! If the Israelis were “intentionally undermining palestinian fertility” the arab birth rate would be zero.
It says that they’re “undermining” Palestinians by not providing multiple free artificial-reproduction attempts.
Blithering beetles, what happened to people’s just naturally making babies?
So some Jews were subject to unfair regulations, solely because they are Jews, the justification being that the Jews in Israel had done something.
This is disgusting. Thinking that one member of a group is equivalent to any other member. The kind of thought that finds a welcome home in little subhuman minds.
We also put sex hormones in chewing gum distributed to Ghaza youths, which is making teenagers horny and immoral. Let’s not forget the Mossad agent squirrels and migratory birds, and assassin sharks.
If the Palestinians didn’t have their kids commit suicide for a cause, then more would achieve adulthood, and more fertility.

The Moslem-majority areas of Israel have some of the highest fertility rates in the world, after places like Chad and Yemen. I doubt there’s much internal demand among those poor women for artificial reproduction: they’re getting more than enough of the natural sort.
Not until the Jooos! came with their sex hormone gum.

My wife and I went and got reproductive help from the Israeli medical system when I lived in Israel. They gave it to me at cost as if I was an Israeli citizen even though I was not Jewish, and I was not a citizen. It cost us a fraction of what it would have cost in the USA. People from all over the world come to Israel to take advantage of these services.
I say this to say that the Palestinians who are so good at taking advantage of Israeli Hospitals, can and do take advantage of this service also, just as I did.
While on one hand they claim they will breed Israel out of existence by having many more children, they complain that the Israelis are having children.
And still they strap explosives on their own children and use them for dumb bombs.
The father of Islam is a liar.
