On SNL, it dawns on the left that its tantrum over Trump is falling flat

I don't watch television, but as part of a video classroom assignment on how show segments are strung together, I ended up watching Saturday Night Live. I watch it anyway on YouTube for the glimpse it gives on how the left "thinks."

I watched the opening segment last night, which was a mirthless five-minute take attempting to convince us President Trump was dumb. Later on in the program, at the half-hour mark, the second political skit, led by actress and guest host Jessica Chastain was more interesting.

Using the format of a cheesy game show with a panel of three contestants, Chastain asked her contenders in the five-minute segment whether this or that action of President Trump's "matters anymore."

What Even Matters Anymore - SNL

The Jimmy Carter parodies were of the good-natured sort.

Chevy Chase’s portrayals of President Ford are not. They’re an onslaught of depicting Ford as stupid. They are not funny and they are not entertaining.

They—were—effective in branding Ford as stupid much as Dan Quayle (stupid), Reagan (stupid and demented), the Bushes (stupid), ... have been portrayed. I’ve only seen a few of SNL’s Trump portrayals on youtube and they seem to be the same nasty and unfunny material as SNL used on other Republicans.

SNL is political propaganda with a smattering of entertainment.

I am 62 and I also remember when SNL first came on. It was
edge comedy and satire. It was funny!

I watched for many years until the writing and the actors were
just stale and it just not funny anymore.

Then the show became so partisan and liberal slanted I quit watching years ago.

The show became so cruel and unfunny of late that it is unwatchable.

Alec Baldwin’s mean spirited portrayal of Trump is just too much and Baldwin is such a immature child.

“Trump has relations with his son? Does it really matter?”

And they implied incest in the Palin family in a skit in 2008.

Meantime, over in Hollyweird, there are photos of Rob Reiner kissing his father full on the lips: saw them on Twitter yesterday.

Can't post them because they're Getty Images.

In Hollywood they only care about nonsense like personality, image, and a couple of social issues. The rest doesn’’t affect them.

They are such good little jesters. The deep premise is WE ARE SUPPOSED TO HATE TRUMP. BECAUSE RACIST AND DUMB.

Did you idiots ever think that the reason nothing stops President Trump is that real, actual, fellow citizens love what he is doing? That he IS making America free again? You’re too stupid to understand that when America is lightly run and following its constitution, it is great, not just for the people you clearly hate (trumps eeeevangelicals) but for you as well. Dumbshts.

It was still funny with Dana Carvey, Phil Hartman, Adam Sandler and Rob Schneider and even sometimes with Darrell Hammond and Molly Shannon and those years. But now it has sucked a bunch of years. I think the 40th anniversary ended the show for me and I quit tuning in. I don’t waste time on it.

Your 6. Michael Che is unwatchable. The other guy has his moments. I just saw the oprah and Stedman segment and I did laugh a few times. Leslie was great as Oprah. Loved her saying that she couldn’t win the presidency if opponents ran Bread against her. The only thing that ever beat her, her whole life. Bread. Funny.

I remember my bro and I were in a hotel room when we discovered it and we too were too young to watch it but watch we did, couldn’t believe something like that was on tv.

I watch with my kids sometimes now and there are still moments, but the anti Trump is so strong that it caricatures itself. It’s really sad. They are wrong about him. He is not slick. But he is trying to improve the country even for rich entertainment Lefties. Because he is trying to help THEIR AUDIENCE.

And Baldwin, as funny as he can be in other ventures, plays a HORRIBLY ONE NOTE Trump. It’s so bad. And Darrell Hammond nailed his Trump for decades. It’s a travesty that Hammond isn’t playing Trump. All you get out of Baldwin is hatred, no impression is even done.

I won’t argue with you there. Comedians always usually fun of Dems for sins of the flesh (who doesn’t want to get laid?) but Pubbies get skewered for being evil (Nixon killing little southeast Asian babies, Bush killing for oil, all wanting to deny mothers and children their healthcare). But I still say SNL went from being comedy with a little bit of politics to politics with no comedy.

DVDs. Nothing more. Controllable.
TV has too much gay sex recruitment. Gross.

You all realize this show originates from NYC. It’s not from “middle America.” It never has been. You cannot watch this without understanding they would look at 90% of us as coming from an alien world. That hasn’t changed since the first show.

And that is why I don't watch it.

Me too. Back about 1977, with the “Not Ready for Prime Time Players,” SN was the funniest thing going.

Was SNL EVER relevant?

SNL is relevant for all the wrong reasons. The viewers of SNL who really like it are not the brightest. Thus what SNL puts forward as commentary becomes the truth in many of their minds. "I can see Russia from my back yard" it the truth to many liberals about Sarah Palin, even though Tina Fey is the one who muttered them. President Ford was a klutz and a joke, becasue Chevy Chase fell down stairs, or a ladder every other week. The list goes on and on.

I have a couple of degrees and I retired the first time at 43. I guess I must be dim witted.

Based on your description of the show you probably last watched it when there was a 19 in the year.
