California Attorney General Xavier Becerra warned employers Thursday of legal repercussions if they assist federal immigration officials in an impending crackdown in the sanctuary state, The Sacramento Bee reported.
Under a new state law the Immigration Worker Protection Act employers and businesses could face fines of up to $10,000 if they provide employee information to U.S. Immigration Customs, Becerra said.
If employers start giving up information about their employees or access to their employees in ways that contradict our new California laws, they subject themselves to actions by my office. We will prosecute those who violate the law, he said at a news conference.
The law prevents workers of any immigration status from being detained at workplaces. Among other stipulations, federal officials must obtain a warrant before searching a worksite and employers are required to notify their workers before a federal audit of employee records.
Becerra said the Department of Justice and the Labor Commissions office which hold exclusive authority over enforcement will give guidance to public and private employers on their responsibilities under the new law.
The warning comes amid rumors of mass sweeps that will target illegal immigrants in Northern California. Under Californias sanctuary laws, local police are restricted from cooperating with federal immigration authorities.
Upon hearing the rumors, local jurisdictions in Northern California said they hadnt been notified by federal officials of any impending raids.
ICEs acting director, Thomas Homan told Fox News earlier this month, If the politicians in California dont want to protect their communities, then ICE will.
California needs to be shut down and troops need to be deployed. Suspend its statehood and throw its leaders in federal prison. Hold new elections and demand new oaths of allegiance to USA be implemented.
Why notify any CA “local jurisdictions” about the pendancy of any impending raid, since they've already indicated they're not going to assist in any way.
“Definitely going to Supreme Court. A state has no say over immigration laws. Ca law is void on its face.”
Yeah, that’s true, but don’t hold your breath that the SCOTUS will “act” any time soon, those worthless a$$holes will take a decade to even decide to take the case.
Seems like the first employer getting fined sues in federal court and the CA law gets overturned.
I'm wondering if ICE has a plan if California state authorities begin interfering with their activities. It's one thing to 'not assist', quite another to impede the activities of federal law enforcement.
Wasnt this guy a conduit for the Awan Pakistani/muslim brotherhood spy ring?
One and the same.
....arrest this bass turd!
Perhaps Becerra has designs on a leading role in a Hispanic secessionist movement in the Southwest?
The increasing likelihood of the border wall going up and choking off the flood of illegal immigrants necessary to establish a demographic takeover in the region could easily force the issue. Hispanics who want to form their own country or join Mexico would find themselves in a now-or-never situation.
Becerra and his ilk are moving from merely defying federal authority on certain laws to renouncing it outright.
It’s laughable. Immigration is an enumerated responsibility in the Constitution and it’s not the States that decide it’s policy.
I know what I would do. I would test the shit out of the law and every agency head who hindered Federal Requests would be arrested and charged with aiding, abetting and obstruction of Justice.
I would force CEO to choose. Go to jail or cooperate.
If the preemption doctrine applied in Arizona, it goes double or triple for this threat.
LOCK THEM UP
I was thinking the exact same thing...that there is already a SCOTUS precedent that will work against Cali.
They have to protect voter fraud.
This could very well be the start of Civil War II. The South didn’t want to obey federal law back then and they refuse to obey federal law now. Let’s do this thing and get our country back.
Oh Lord, please smite those who ensnare others in their wretched evil deeds. California may you slide into the blue Pacific like so much garbage.
Kalifornia has effectively seceded from the USA. Treat it as such.
Imagine being an employer stuck in the middle of this: If you don’t screen your employees/verify eligibility for employment you violate federal laws, while if you cooperate with federal law enforcement you violate state law.
Why would anyone open a business in California?
What if they passed a law but nobody followed it?
ICE needs to do their illegal roundup raids without the help of the employers.
Basically tell Kalifornia to stick it.
