That is twice the experience I have, but it is also possible you perceived something that wasn't actually occurring. What you describe is very illegal, and you should have been able to easily prove so in a court.
Having never seen that at my company (larger than 2 of the 3 you mention), doesn't mean it doesn't occur, but the laws exist specifically to prevent what you describe. We are heavily audited and have never released anyone to replace them with a lower paid immigrant. 6000+ IT workers in my company.

Well ... then you are the exception ... I have had it happen at Intel a couple of times. Also happened at Motorola AMD National-Semi Lattice TI Maxim Qualcomm Teradyne and a few smaller companies that have since gone BK. The longevity is around 3 years until it happens. My close friend had it happen to him at Cisco. I have had other close friends that had it happen at HP/Aligent and Cadence. So I don’t know what company you are working for BUT it is certainly the exception. BTW I’m a chip designer. And please don’t make me laugh about “the law” These companies skirt “the law” at will.
