Freedom Caucus chair: GOP leaders don't have votes to avoid shutdown Rep. Mark Meadows (R-N.C.), the chairman of the House Freedom Caucus, said late Tuesday night that House GOP leadership did not have the votes to pass a government funding bill.
There is currently not enough support for the latest leadership initiative, Meadows told The Hill. We continue to work with them to find a way to reach consensus on a path forward.
Members of the Freedom Caucus met Tuesday night after GOP leaders pitched a new strategy to pass a stopgap spending bill, which would fund the government through Feb. 16 and be paired with a six-year extension of funding for the Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP).
The plan would also delay ObamaCare's medical device and Cadillac taxes for two years, and the health insurance tax for one year starting in 2019.
Republican leadership sounded optimistic on Tuesday that they would have enough support to pass the continuing resolution (CR) without the help of Democrats in the House.

If the GOPe is going to pass another kick the can down the road, then why add provisions that the Rats want, but conservatives do not, and fail to add any provisions that conservatives want and the Rats do not.
They are not going to get any Rat votes for anything ever, why are we giving the Rats anything they want (which also means is anti-American).
They now are holding out for 100% amnesty for ALL 11 million illegals.
Shut that f'er down and shove this mess up their asses!
They might end up in the minority, but it beats having to explain time and again why hard-working people should sacrifice time and effort to go vote for Republicans and have nothing accomplished.
good shut it down and kick the illegals out...they call that a 2fer....ha!
Since most of the people furloughed will be Obama era/error hired government employees, that hate Trump and all GOP, including RINO’s, the negatives are not keep up with the positives for reasons to go ahead and shut down. The biggest negative, is that the military still doesn’t get a budget to plan with.
If they don’t vote for the bill even with some goodies, then the GOP can just pass the bill without the Dems, and without Dem goodies, after nuking the “60 vote” rule.
Shut’r down!
Third-rate banana republics operate without budgets. So do lemonaid stands run by toddlers. You’d think a $4 trillion government would operate differently.
Let the Dems shut it down. Make them take responsibility for putting illegal aliens over Americans. Wait...that should read “putting potential Dem votes over Americans”. If illegals tended to vote Republican, Chuck and Nancy would be laying bricks for the wall themselves. Make them deny it.
If Scamnasty was such a good Idea why didn’t they pass it when they held both Houses and the Presidency?
Answer: Because they knew they would get slaughtered at the election to follow.
The GOPe’s antics during the Alabama special election are coming back to haunt them already.
